Ok, so this is my second attempt at running this scan (Notepad "CFScript.txt" dragged onto ComboFix )
Both have been left to run for an hour. Not knowing whether or not this is normal, I have stopped both of them (after the said hour)
After doing so I am left with just my desktop screen (e.g screensaver picture) without any icons or the start menu button. I also have no way of powering off/restarting my laptop, so I am having to remove the power completely (removing battery)
When the laptop restarts I go through the 'Windows recovery' start windows normally process
I am adding a picture of the ComboFix scan to this post, as I have no way of obtaining a log for it (as scan not completing)
If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
Sorry I explained things poorly in my last message. It did not say that the scan had failed. What I meant was that like the previous scans, this one was still running after 75 minutes? Is this normal?
I appreciate, that some scans will take longer than others, depending on how infected a machine is for example. Is there an upper limit for a scan though, or could it take up to three hours for instance?
Also, I am having trouble, switching off my Norton security in Safe Mode and am getting the pop up message from the ComboFix product, suggesting that my security product is still operating?
In other words, I seem to be able to switch it off whilst Windows is running normally, but not necessarily in Safe Mode?
Thank you
I have people who had CF running for hours until completion. If leaving overnight doesn't complete all the 50 stages then yes it could be something wrong. Try leaving it for a few hours and see what happens. Maybe just give yourself a maximum 4 hours.
I can't really tell what is the upper limit because it really depends on the performance of your computer and other variables that affect the fixing time.
Norton can be a headache for us whenever we try to run the tools, my best advice to you is to uninstall Norton momentarily to allow smooth process whilst we try to get your computer back to normal.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly
Right, so I shall completely uninstall my Norton product now and run a "CFScript.txt" dragged onto ComboFix scan once again, through my Safe Mode settings
I will let it run for up to four hours and hopefully post the completed scan details here, around 11.30-12.00 GMT
Hello

The error returned was:
Sorry, your post was too long, please reduce it
I have tried sending it in TWO parts, but am still getting the same message
