Hello - Sometimes when I type my passwords into forms, sometimes they don't display as asterisks initially. Either nothing is displayed or they show up initially as vertical lines. When this does hapen, most of the time they eventually render as asterisks. I have been chalking this up to maybe my computer is busy or slowed due to new slower wireless network. However, I found a file called service.exe in one of my folders and I do not know what it is, which made me suspcious. Also one day a while back I clicked on the wrong website and it turned out to be one of those popups that then try to force you to install something by not giving you another option. This seemed to be just before the weird password type-in installed inccoredtly. Attached is a copy the results of running HijackThis. Also, just to note that I have shut down most of my processes, but I see a number of odd programs still running in my list of processes in Windows Task Mgr. Thank you fo for any help you can provide. Also, around the same time, someone hacked a hotmail account that I have had for ages. I have wondered whether they got my password with some sort of spyware. And since then I can tell that someone has been attempting to access that account because I continually get errors that I have made too many attempts to log into that account even when I have made no attempt to log into that account. Their failure is because I have changed the password on that account regularly. But it is clear that someone thinks they got a hold of my old password somehow. Of course there are many ways to do this, possibly if I was on an unsecured network, but all this happened around the same time so I mention it here. Sorry for the double post earlier. Sometimes buttons also seem to be misfiring or appear to be misfiring and I am forced to click them twice. But then it turns out they actually did execute the desired function.
Hi junk1958,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

I don't see a problem in your HJT log. Let's get a better look.

Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.

    • DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
  • Double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • After a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt report in your next reply
  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scroling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and the click UPLOAD.
