So, a freind of mine said that he has a computer that is not working properly, but if I could fix it it, then I can have it. Specs… Sony Vaio Pentium 4 1.6Ghz processor 512MB DDR Ram Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Yes I know, it should have sp3 but I want to fix the viruses first Graphics Card NVidia TNT 64 My HDD has 2 partitions c:\ and d:\ So what happen so far… The first thing I wanted to do is make sure that the computer is clean from infections. I have downloaded Avast 6.?, performed a full system scan, and it reported several viruses. I told Avast to delete them all, and also recommended doing a boot scan, which I did. I then downloaded MalewareBytes, updated its database, and then performed a quick scan. It found some files. I then downloaded DDS and GMer and performed a scan from them as well. I am not sure what type of infection this pc has, but originally I could not connect to the interent. I got all of my logs, but this is going to take more then 1 post. So I was guessing I could start with posting my AVast log, but it wont let me copy and paste, and I cannot find it on the HDD. Do u klnow how to get Avast 6 to copy the logs?
Hello,
Welcome to WhatTheTech. My name is mowman, and I will be helping you fix your problems.

If you do not make a reply in 3 days, we will have to close your topic.

You may want to keep the link to this topic in your favorites. Alternatively, you can click the Options button at the top bar of this topic and Track this topic. The topics you are tracking can be found by clicking on My Topics at the top of any page.

Please take note of some guidelines for this fix:

•Refrain from making any changes to your computer including installing/uninstall programs, deleting files, modifying the registry, and running scanners or tools. Doing so could cause changes to the directions I have to give you and prolong the time required. Further more, you should not be taking any advice relating to this computer from any other source throughout the course of this fix.
•If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
•Even if things appear to be better, it might not mean we are finished. Please continue to follow my instructions and reply back until I give you the "all clean". We do not want to clean you part-way, only to have the system re-infect itself.
•Please reply using the button in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Do not start a new topic. The logs that you post should be pasted directly into the reply.
Only attach them if requested or if they do not fit into the post

Please post the DDS and GMER logs, run them again if you no longer have the logs.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • See this Link for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
  • Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.
here is my combofix log as requested

as for how is the pc running now, other than being able to connect to the internet, and the pc being a tiny bit faster, I still have a problem with the safe to remove. When I try to pick the device to remove, it says that it is still being used by some other program eventhough nothing would be running. In addition, now when I go to plugin my cell phone, the plug n play does not work, which then when i explore "my computer" sometimes I see it and other times there is no drive. Also, not sure if this makes a difference, but I have been notiving that all these scanners are not scanning the d drive, which is the second partition of my harddrive and was also reported by Avast stating that there were infections in there as well. I only do malware removal so you can ask about this in our Windows forum when we are finished if you wish.

I have been notiving that all these scanners are not scanning the d drive, which is the second partition of my harddrive and was also reported by Avast stating that there were infections in there as well.

Can you run a full Avast scan and tell me what infections it says are in the D drive
