i originally wanted to rearrange it to make a y(and the reason i asked the question earlier) because i saw this great interactive webpage about the scale of the universe where ym is a yoctometre(never heard of the word till then) :- http://primaxstudio.com/stuff/scale_of_universe/ just click and hold the blue button and slide it from small to big.

I like the initiative. I'm not sure about how much it looks like an n, nor the reasoning behind a lower case n paired with an upper case M… but:

What does everybody think? Is it legit? Does Terry1966 earn the giant cookie or does rshaffer4444?

you could always make it um if you think it looks better

I'm guessing that you are suggesting "um" as the symbol for Micro Meter? Again, I think that is a creative effort… but Micro Meter is actually symolozed with a greek Mu, rather than a "u" It would be "µm".

µ would be the greek equivelant for the latin letter m. Whereas the latin u would be symbolize the greek letter Upsilon in lower case letters. (Upsilon is the latin Y in uppercase)

however.. even though the alphabetical equivilent of µ is m… the m prefix for units is milli which is much larger than the prefix µ which is micro. And, even though my college proffesors would have drummed me out of the classroom for using u instead of µ in a formula - it appears in the age of computers that u is often used as a substitute for µ on the world wide web. For example - utorrent is used more often for the name of the program than µtorrent, which is the correct name. Therefore… I find 100UM as an acceptable response that is much smaller than 100CM

is there a global cookie shortage?

Actually yes. There is always a shortage of real cookies. But, lucky for us… there is an overabundance of digital cookies. Sometimes it is impossible to get rid of the darn things. Everyone who participates in Monday Madness gets a cookie… but there can only be one "winning" cookie - though the important thing to remember is that the fun comes not so much from getting the "correct" answer, but rather from the "effort" to come up with an answer.

:) Kinda like the old adage:

"It's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game."

As for me, I've been deliberating quite a bit on this one since it was posted. I'm still thinkin'. I don't know why, but my intuit is still not satisfied and is driving me to continue problem solving. Can the Cookie Award ceremony be post-poned a bit? If not, mind if I post a late entry? (I assume "late-entries" (i.e. entries after cookie is awarded), if allowed, could only be submitted provided it's understood there is no cookie…)

Hmmm… wonder what happens to all those submissions and nominations from "Nobel-Prize-Winner-Could-Have-Beens-Had-They-Met-The Deadline". Do we think there is perhaps a large pool of undiscovered talent, resources and invention in corners of the world where publicity, financial and political support have yet to bring forward? Hmmm… maybe each country should start a new television series using same process as demonstrated by the highly popular "_____(insert name of county)_______'s Got Talent". We could call it "Earth's Got Intelligence" … or … "Are You Smarter Than A Nobel Prize Winner?" … or … "Who Wants To Be A Nobel Prize Winner!" … or … "What The Heck's Monday Madness Gone Wild" !!!

Unfortunately… now-a-days… the Nobel Prize has become political - much like being Knighted in England. To often there is no substance behind the award. Sort of like when Midnight Cowboy won best picture instead of True Grit (or even Hello Dolly or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) - in one fell swoop, the award completely lost all credibility.

However… seeing as how cookies are free on the World Weird Web… late submissions are always accepted.
