HI, i have had some major intrusions attempts on my network and i think some one from my neighborhood is using my network to hack into my internet services. I even contacted my ISP and they specifically stated that there is unknown IP address listed on my network account. Before i never knew if this was the case, but qwest specifically stated that you have unauthorized third party, accessing your network. According to qwest, they apparently changed some internal settings in my network locking me out of wireless services and also using other possibly using other spyware related programs connected to my router to gather information. In regards to these network intrusion attempts, they are giving me a new router and then asking me to change my encryption on my network. In addition they want me to change all passwords, ID's for all accounts and use a password lock application. That encrypts all personal ID and pass info on my computers that are running on the network. They also suggested that i may be a victim of identity theft and want me to consider changing all my banking information with my creditors and bank accounts.
Now i know i have had repeated attacks on my network, viruses and shut downs, hard ware malfunctions, etc. I told them this and they said that those issue can be directly related to the intrusion attempts on my network. They also stated that the firmware on my router was corrupted. I explained to them that i just now got a new router about a few weeks back. They said that that the unauthorized third party hacker that hacked my network may of been the cause of the curroption.
They also stated this is a very rare issue that they don't normally run into with qwest customers. So what they are doing is sending me a completly new upgraded router, with a new SSID and new pass phrase.
They recommend that i search on the internet for a type of application that picks up other IP signals or network devices in the area and then report to them immediately if you find the network IP on your router list. They also stated that the person or user that hacked my network did so and changed encrypted settings on my router, that other wise would of been possible because i had my WPA 2 encrypted.
So im sorry i had to go over all this, but i had to explain the situation here thoroughly so you know whats going on.
Anyways i need to know if there is an application that you would recommend i use for security purposes on tracking IPs or other network services in my area. Qwest stated that they will be bringing out an application for customers in the future that is able to monitor and track your own traffic flow through the network, incase of intrusion attempts, often times bandwidth limit can exceed high ratios if some one else is using your network. I have had problems with over excessive usage in my bandwidth as well. They stated that these serves or applications are not available through qwest at this time. But they recommend they i use an application to monitor my network traffic to see if it reaches unusual high leves, indicating that i might have another possible intrusion attempt on my network.
So bottom line is, my question for you is do you know of any application's that i can use on my computer to detect other IP's or networks in my area, and also an application that is able to monitor my network traffic flow.
