Machine's working great and loading faster too… thx a bunch… does everything look ok on your end.. i have a windows update and a few more like IE, firefox, yahoo should I update these or no
We found a couple of threats, but now everything seems to be in order.

Always keep your programs updated, specially the one's that you most frequently use (Windows, IE, Firefox, Java, Adobe Reader, etc.)

Ok we are done Felicia. Please follow this last procedure:

Step 1 | Clean up with OTL

  • Double-click OTL.exe to start the program.
  • Close all other programs apart from OTL as this step will require a reboot
  • On the OTL main screen, press the CLEANUP button
  • Say Yes to the prompt and then allow the program to reboot your computer.
  • Now, from the desktop, delete any logs that you have left over.

Step 2 | Set a New Restore Point to prevent possible reinfection from an old one. Some of the malware you picked up could have been saved in System Restore. Since System Restore is a protected directory, your tools can not access it to delete these bad files which sometimes can reinfect your system. Setting a new restore point AFTER cleaning your system will help prevent this and enable your computer to "roll-back" to a clean working state.

  • Download SysRestorePoint to your desktop and unzip it to it's own folder.
  • Double click SysRestorePoint.exe so that we can make a new system restore point.
  • A box will pop up after it has made a new point, usually after a few seconds. Close that window and exit the program.

Step 3 | Your version of Adobe Reader is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Adobe components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Adobe Reader Version X. and save it to your desktop.
  • Uncheck the "Free McAfee Security plan Plus" option or any other Toolbar you are offered.
  • Click the download button at the bottom.
  • If you use Internet Explorer and do not wish to install the ActiveX element, simply click on the click here to download link on the next page.
  • Remove all older version of Adobe Reader: Go to Add/remove and uninstall all versions of Adobe Reader, Acrobat Reader and Adobe Acrobat.
  • If you are unsure of how to use Add or Remove Programs, the please see this tutorial: How To Remove An Installed Program From Your Computer
  • Then from your desktop double-click on Adobe Reader to install the newest version.
  • If using Windows Vista and the installer refuses to launch due to insufficient user permissions, then Run As Administrator.
  • When the "Adobe Setup - Welcome" window opens, click the Install > button.
  • If offered to install a Toolbar, just uncheck the box before continuing unless you want it.
  • Once the installation is finished, open Adobe Reader and accept the warranty if prompted.
  • Click on Help and select Check for Updates.
  • A window will open and Adobe will check for Updates. If any updates are found to be available click on Download.
  • Once the update is downloaded you will get a system notification telling you so. Click on the popup to restore the window.
  • In the window that opens click Install.
  • Once the update is done click Close.
  • Your Adobe Reader is updated now.

Step 4 | Please follow these steps to get the latest Java version.

  • Click on the following link to visit java website: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6
  • Scroll down to where it says "JDK 6 Update 25 with Java EE".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right column (JRE).
  • Select the Windows platform from the dropdown menu.
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: " I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 with JavaFX License Agreement". Click on Continue. The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on the recently downloaded java installer icon to install the newest version.
  • After the install is complete, go into the Control Panel (using Classic View) and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup)
    • On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
    • Next, click on the Delete Files button
    • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH Checked
    • Applications and AppletsTrace and Log Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

Last Step | Now, in order to avoid future infections, please take time to read the following articles:

Read those articles and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Thank you for your patience, and performing all of the procedures requested. I'd be grateful if you could reply to this post so that I know you have read it and, if you've no other questions, the thread can then be closed
OMG!!! :pullhair: I didn't do the last steps yet. something happened and I don't know what… here's the HJT log:

I didn't perform the last steps you sent because I went on a website then started getting pop ups, firefox is acting up so I did another HJT log and thats what posted just in case I need to do something else. other wise I will go ahead and perform the last steps.
Ok, before we continue, let me put a word of caution. You are using peer-to-peer programs, specifically BitComet. These are what we call an optional removal. However, anytime you are running any type of peer-to-peer application, you are more prone to infection by malware, and this is probably how you became infected in the first place. The choice to remove them is entirely up to you, but I would strongly recommend that you do. If you do not want to, please at least refrain from using any peer-to-peer programs for the remainder of my fix.

Please download DDS from any of the links below:

  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please disable any anti-malware program that will block scripts from running before running DDS.
  • Double-Click on dds and a command window will appear. This is normal.
  • Shortly after two logs will appear:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • A window will open instructing you save & post the logs.
  • Save the logs to a convenient place such as your desktop.
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt report in your next reply.
  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scroling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and then click UPLOAD.

Please download Combofix from either of the links below and save it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

——————————————————————–
IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
——————————————————————–

  • Right-click and choose "Run as administrator" on Combofix & follow the prompts. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
  • When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
