Hi,
I'm having a couple of problems, and a friend recommend that I post here to get some help.
Every so often, while I am browsing the web, my browser (FireFox 4, currently) will just suddenly try to launch a PDF file. I am not clicking on any links or anything, this will just happen spontaneously for no apparent reason. The PDF file fails to load and the whole machine locks up for a few seconds (even the mouse will not work). I'm running BitDefender Total Security 2010 and after the machine start responding again, I get a report from it saying that the PDF file (with some random name) tried to access the internet and was blocked. This doesn't seem like a huge problem, but it's annoying and I am worried it might be related to my second issue, which is far more severe.
Problem 2 is that, every so often, I am getting infected with malware that disables basically everything on my machine. It pretends to be an anti-virus program and pops up all sorts of annoying warnings and tries to convince me to download something to fix it. Whenever this happens, none of my program will run. If I try to run Windows Explorer, RealPlayers, Windows Media Player, or even Windows Explorer, this program usurps control of the machine and pops up a fake warning that the program could not be run because it's infected.
To solve this second issue, I have to reboot into safe mode and run a scan with MalwareBytes. This cures the problem for a few days, but then it keeps coming back and I want to get rid of it permanently.
So can anyone help me out here? I ran HijackThis, and here's the output:
