For the past three days, every time I open up my Internet Explorer it attempts to install malware onto my computer. I've gotten a bunch of pop ups to download SystemErrorFixer, or something else like that, and everytime I click Cancel to not install it, it goes and installs anyway. I've managed to X out of IE before it's finished downloading any of this stuff, but it's made my IE absolutely useless.

I was able to use Firefox for a few days without it doing this to me, but now Firefox has started giving me these pop up messages, too.

What can I do? I've uninstalled IE. If it keep ups with Firefox, I don't know what to do.

I've run three anti-virus programs (Ad-Aware, AVG, and SuperAntiSpyware) and none of them have found anything on my PC, so I honestly have NO idea what's going on. At this point, any help would be appreciated. Here's the log I've just got from HijackThis.

I see neither a third-party firewall nor an anti-virus program installed on the PC - how long has this been the case?

I've run three anti-virus programs (Ad-Aware, AVG, and SuperAntiSpyware)

The first and third are anti-spyware programs and not anti-virus ones. Was the second AVG Anti-Spyware or AVG Anti-Virus?

I uninstalled all three of them because I didn't want them all on my computer at once, I didn't know how safe it was. Also, I had no idea if the problem was spyware, a virus, or just IE. The AVG was the anti-virus, free version 7.5. I was told to come here from the Internet Explorer help forum, and I figured I'd ask someone more specialized which was the best and right for my computer at the moment before I left a whole mess of the stuff on my PC.

I admit I don't know anything about computers, that's why I didn't want to attempt anything myself. My computer seems to have many issues. Right now, Windows isn't even letting me install it's updates, or turn on Automatic Updates at all. It's insanely frustrating, I just don't know what's wrong with it.

Reinstall AVG Free, update it and run a full scan - let it fix anything it finds. Once you've done that, post a fresh HJT log and we'll take it from there.

I've just started that, so I'm glad I've actually made a right decision so far. I'm running a full scan right now, a few trojans have been discovered and I've clicked heal, there's a few .dll files that have been moved to the virus vault.

Thanks a lot for your efforts to help me so far, I'm very appreciative. When this finishes, I'll post the new log.

(sorry for the double post...)

I ran the AVG Anti-Virus, it found 14 things (all of them from my Temporary Internet Files from IE, and from the Windows System32 folder.) It healed what it could and moved the rest to the Virus Vault. I restarted my computer, got the error message that it could not find and run hyiiebqh.dll file, which was one of the ones that AVG moved. Now I seem to have a much bigger problem ...

My toolbar won't load, nor would my desktop icons. The only reason I've been able to get onto the internet is because my Yahoo Messenger loads up at the start and I was able to click the button to go to my email, hence being able to get here.

Now I really don't know what to do. Can't run a HJT log, either, because I can't get to it. :pullhair:

EDIT: Restarted again and was able to get my toolbar and icons back, but it's still wanting the missing .dll file. Here's the new log:

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • Ensure a checkmark is placed next to both Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version - you'll need to clear it with your firewall.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan and then Scan.
  • When the scan has finished, click OK and then Show Results to view the results - no surprise there!
  • If MBAM finds anything, check the box(es) and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
Let me have the MBAM log, a fresh HJT log (run in Normal Mode) AND a description of how your PC is behaving.

Also, run HJT and click on Open the Misc Tools section.
  • Click Open Uninstall Manager...
  • Click Save list... and save it to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste the file uninstall_list.txt into your next reply.

As for my computer, well, I've now got a ton of missing .dll error messages upon startup, but nothing has exploded or not worked so far. AVG seems to be finding a lot of .dll files (I don't know if they are the same ones that have been deleted) and when I click 'Heal' it says Action Failed -- Cannot heal file not enough information found.

Download gmer.zip from here and save it to your Desktop.
You will need to unzip it before you run it.

To do this: Right click on the zipped folder and from the menu that appears, click on Extract All...
In the 'Extraction Wizard' window that opens, click on Next> and in the next window that appears, click on Next> again.
In the final window, click on Finish

Double click gmer.exe to begin:
  • If you get a message about "system modification", click Yes and work through the rest of the instructions.
  • Ensure that the Rootkit Tab at the top is selected.
  • Make sure all the boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for ‘Show All’.
  • Click the Scan button on the right.
  • When the scan has completed, (you'll have time for a snack and a cuppa!), click the Copy button underneath - this will save the report to your Clipboard.
  • Paste it into Notepad (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad) and save it somewhere convenient.
  • Click the >>> Tab at the top and select the Autostart Tab.
  • Click the Scan button on the right - this one should only take seconds to complete.
  • Save the log as before.
Copy and paste both reports into your next reply - you may need to post them separately.
The Preview option may show the whole logs being posted, but they sometimes get cut down when the actual post is made, so check the post once it is completed.
Death to the salad eaters!

1) Download UnDLL by ESET from here and save it to your Desktop.
You will then need to extract the file(s):
Right click on the zipped folder and from the menu that appears, click on Extract All...
In the 'Extraction Wizard' window that opens, click on Next> and in the next window that appears, click on Next> again.
In the final window, click on Finish

Double click UNDLL.EXE to begin:
  • Click Select infected DLL.
  • Copy and paste the following filename into the Filename: textbox and click Open -

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\lkmftiga.dll

  • Allow the tool to delete the file - a reboot may be necessary.
  • If the file isn't present, UnDLL should just tell you and you can close the program.
2) Run HijackThis as you did to generate a log, but this time click on 'Do a system scan only'.
Place a checkmark in the boxes to the left of the following entries, by clicking on them:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [905f27aa] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\lkmftiga.dll",b
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Updates] svehost.exe

O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} -

O20 - Winlogon Notify: wvuSljJC - wvuSljJC.dll (file missing)

CLOSE ALL OPEN WINDOWS AND BROWSERS - EXCEPT HJT and click on Fix checked

There will be a textfile in the undll folder - let me have a copy of that, a fresh HJT log (run in Normal Mode) AND a description of how your PC is behaving.
Death to the salad eaters!

UnDLL textfile:

(When I hit 'Select Infected DLL' it gave me a pop-up that said something along the lines of it couldn't find properly executable dll files? I don't know if that is normal. It also told me I didn't have to reboot, so I didn't.)

As for PC behavior, nothing seems to have been affected since unDLL, but I haven't restarted so I don't know (should I?) As for the situation that caused this all to begin with, Firefox hasn't given me any pop-ups to download any systemerrorfixer or winfixer or winanonymous last night or so far today, and seems to be running extremely fast and smoothly, which it wasn't before. But as for Internet Explorer, I haven't reinstalled it yet. Would it be safe to try and do such now, to see if it still presents the same issues?

Also, AVG Anti-Virus keeps finding this: C:\System Volume Information\_restore{69CE77FF-9072-4C9F-9708-A0D38F9B861E}\RP475\A0041999.dll and saying action failed when I try to heal it, it cannot find enough information. Is it just having this problem because something else deleted it? All the things my AVG seems to find upon the daily scheduled tests it runs, it cannot heal because of that reason.

(When I hit 'Select Infected DLL' it gave me a pop-up that said something along the lines of it couldn't find properly executable dll files? I don't know if that is normal. It also told me I didn't have to reboot, so I didn't.)

It sometimes needs to reboot to delete files, and sometimes it doesn't - it knows best, so it must be happy.

I haven't restarted so I don't know (should I?)

Why not - it shouldn't cause any problems.

But as for Internet Explorer, I haven't reinstalled it yet. Would it be safe to try and do such now, to see if it still presents the same issues?

Should be OK now.

Also, AVG Anti-Virus keeps finding this: C:\System Volume Information.....

System Volume Information is the folder where Windows stores the information it holds in Restore Points that it creates within System Restore. This folder is protected to keep the RPs safe and ready for you to use, which is why AVG can't get at anything malicious that Windows backed up when it created a RP while the PC was infected.
If this is the only issue left with the PC, then it's easily solved. Running "combofix /u", see below, will flush System Restore and you shouldn't have any further issues with these detections.

Your log doesn't appear to show a third-party software firewall installed - if you have one, and i've missed it, please ignore this.
If you are relying the firewall that comes with Service Pack 2, then you need to install one. While the SP2 firewall is better than nothing, it doesn't monitor outgoing traffic, so anything malicious on your computer can 'phone home' at will.
If you are using a wireless router that comes with a NAT hardware firewall, this also doesn't monitor outgoing connections.

There are a few free firewalls available.
Comodo Firewall Pro, available here.
PC Tools Firewall Plus, available here.
Online Armor Free, available here.

It is important to note that you should only have one firewall installed at a time, but you can download them all to your Desktop and install each in turn to see which one you prefer.

Understanding and Using Firewalls: http://www.bleepingc...tutorial60.html

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are running an old version of Sun Java which needs updating:
  • Go here and click on the Download button to the right of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u5.
  • Accept the license agreement by clicking the appropriate radio button and then continue.
  • Under Windows Platform - Java™ SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 5, click the Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language link.
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove any entries that refer to Java 2 Runtime Environment and then reboot your PC.
  • Navigate to and delete the following folder, if it exists: C:\Program Files\Java.
  • Finally double click the installation file that you downloaded earlier.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I want you to run your PC as normal for a few days and when you are happy that everything is fine, do the following:

Go to Start > Run, enter the following into the textbox and click OK: combofix /u
This will uninstall Combofix and do a little housework besides.

Create a new Restore Point - this will give a clean one should you need it in the future.
A tutorial for System Restore is available here.

The reason for waiting is that if removing the malware has caused a problem, which it occasionally does, you can put your PC back to how it was before the fix. This will re-install the malware, but an infected PC is better than an expensive paperweight!

Thank you for your help. As for the Combofix, where do I download that? You told me how to uninstall it, but I don't see where to install it? Sorry if I missed something. And which of these programs you've had me install should stay on my computer? I plan to keep AVG, but otherwise is everything okay to delete (gmer, undll, anti-malware)? I redownloaded IE and it seems to be working fine. My Windows Updates also install now. The only problem it seems so far, after a few restarts, is AVG is still saying I cannot heal infected .dll files (saying virus found Log) because of the not enough info reason. Is this because of the same reason it won't heal the system restore ones? I downloaded the PC Tools Firewall Plus and am using it. I read the article but is there somewhere with tips for what I should be allowing and what I shouldn't be allowing through?
