We seem to have gotten this virus(es) from an email. In addition to the huge letters WARNING and red background, we were having trouble accessing files. I have Symantec installed and did at the time this occurred, so I first did a complete scan. This came up ok. Problems still continued, so I did a google search and followed a few seemingly related threads. Based on this I have run superantispyware.com. It found a lot of adware. I also ran malwarebytes. It came up with nothing. Things seem to running ok now, but I don't know if it's really gone or just lurking waiting to do something else. So far none of my files seem to have been permanently damaged.

Here is my HiJackThis log:

Hi,

:welcome:

My name is NoodleTech. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Do not delete anything unless instructed to.
  • DO NOT use tools such as ComboFix without supervision.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clean. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clean.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
===================================================

Refer to the ComboFix User's Guide

  • Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

    Link 1
    Link 2

    * IMPORTANT !!! Place ComboFix.exe on your  Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with ComboFix.

You can get help on disabling your protection programs here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • Your desktop may go blank. This is normal. It will return when ComboFix is done. ComboFix may reboot your machine. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Ensure your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications are re-enabled.

Do you want me to run Combofix? I'm not sure since part of your note said NOT to run it.

Yes, please run it. My instructions say not to mouseclick the window while it's running.

Noodletech, Ok. Here is my combofix log. I must admit that I ran this yesterday BEFORE reading your post, but the net result is the same. I put it in as an attachment since it was so long. Hope that's ok. Thanks so much in advance for your help. Delaina A

Hi Delaina,

It looks like ComboFix removed some stuff this time around too. How's everything running? What kind of issues are you having?

I need you to run the following scan: Eset Online Scanner
  • Place a check mark in the box YES, I accept the Terms Of Use
  • Click the Start button.
  • Now click the Install button.
  • Click Start.  The scanner engine will initialize and update.
  • Do Not place a check mark in the box beside Remove found threats.
  • Click the Scan button.  The scan will now run, please be patient.
  • When the scan finishes click the Details tab.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the C:\Program Files\ESET\log.txt into your next reply.

It seems to be running ok, maybe a little slow. I'm pretty sure I need to defrag, but I didn't want to do anything on that until I got rid of this malware. Am I clean based on your assessment or do I need to do something else? Thanks, Delaina A

Sorry. Missed that the first time because it was below your post. I ran the ESET online scanner. I followed your directions, but I never saw an option for "Details" tab. It took and hour and fifteen minutes for the scan to complete which seemed like a really long time to me. Anyway, here is the complete contents of my log file. This is much shorter than the scan itself: ESETSmartInstaller@High as CAB hook log: OnlineScanner64.ocx - registred OK OnlineScanner.ocx - registred OK I did not delete the ESET files on close. I wasn't sure if I needed to do this or not. Thanks, Delaina A

I just checked my Symantec log and I found the following in the "quarantine": I am not allowed to upload a screen shot or word doc of this of this so typing what it says: Risk: Packed.Generic.320 Filename: hGdDhMmHdOb16633.exe.vir Type: Quarantine Original Location: C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\ProgramData\hGdDhMmHdOb16633.exe.vir Type: Infected This was found as part of a normal scan this evening at the same time I was running Eset Online. Delaina, That file has already been quarantined by ComboFix. It will be deleted when we uninstall ComboFix along with the rest of the quarantined files. ESET didn't find any infected files?
