Possible infection

Yesterday afternoon, I was playing an online Java-based game (RuneScape, to be precise), while talking to a friend via Meebo.com in Google Chrome. I stepped away for a few minutes, and returned to discover that the system had at some point restarted itself while I was away, and had posted an error message which read "The system has recovered from a serious error." I allowed the notice to send an error report, and it then opened an Internet Explorer window stating that the error could be caused by one of many things: a hardware failure, failure/incompatibility with a driver, an error/incompatibility with recently installed software, or a malware or virus infection.

While I was searching the internet for some explanation, I somehow managed another error message given to me by Windows, which I assume was a duplicate of the same error. I closed everything down, and began updating and running some scans. I scanned and immunized with SpyBot, then ran full scans with SUPERAntiSpyware, MalwareBytes, and Avast!. The only thing that turned up even one result was SUPER, which resulted in one instance of Adware.TrackingCookie, which I believe is harmless? I shut the computer down after Avast! finished scanning.

The day before yesterday, I installed a Java update, and everything ran fine that evening and the entire morning yesterday until the sudden restart. Just before I walked away and the system apparently crashed, RuneScape applied a system update, and I wonder if perhaps the update could have conflicted with Java. However, this morning, when I turned the computer on to run DDS, I was greeted with another error messed. The same "The system has recovered from a serious error." was shown, and I clicked to view details about the report. This is what it showed:

BCCode : ea BCP1: 84535A30 BCP2 : 845C65E8 BCP3 : 845C7B60
BCP4 : 00000001 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 768_1

According to the Internet Explorer page that opened up sending the error report for THIS error, this one was caused by an issue with the video card and/or its driver, however, I've not updated or changed anything as far as the drivers, and there were no unintended shut downs yesterday after the scans completed. I've heard this could be a looped error withing Windows XP, but also that it could be caused by a virus or malware. I apologize if I'm being paranoid and thus posting in the wrong forum, but I would very much appreciate if someone can take a look at my logs and ensure that nothing is crawling around underneath, and perhaps point me somewhere to fix the issue if the system is in fact clean?

I'm currently running Windows XP, I believe SP3, with Avast! Free and ZoneAlarm Free installed, as well as SpyBot, SUPERAntispyware, and MalwareBytes, as mentioned before. Below is the DDS logs, run just after sending the error report from the error which appeared upon startup today.

Hi mediaklepto,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. Logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Just because you're paranoid - it doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

I'm not seeing anything in your log… but could you please run DDS again and this time post both of the reports - dds.txt and attach.txt.
Thank you for your response!

I would like to note that this time, upon starting up the computer to run DDS, the error did not pop up, yet when I started it up to run DDS the previous time, it DID pop up.

As you instructed, I'll post both DDS.txt and Attach.txt.
Below is DDS.txt; Attach.txt will follow in a second post.

mediaklepto,

I don't believe you are infected.

I believe your errors are related to a driver.

I suggest that you post in the windows forum and seek help from the Tech Team. When you post there, be sure to include a link back to this thread.

Does this make sense to you?
mediaklepto,

You can go ahead and delete DDS (and any of it's .txt files you saved).

The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing.

Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Please respond back that you understand the above and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, this thread will be closed Resolved.
