Hi Sherie, So far so good..

I see you have GMER.zip on your desktop. Do you need help unzipping and running GMER?

Run OTL.exe
Copy/paste the following text written inside of the code box into the Custom Scans/Fixes box located at the bottom of OTL
:OTL
O2 - BHO: (Search Toolbar) - {9D425283-D487-4337-BAB6-AB8354A81457} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Search Toolbar\SearchToolbar.dll ()
O3 - HKLM\..\Toolbar: (Search Toolbar) - {9D425283-D487-4337-BAB6-AB8354A81457} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Search Toolbar\SearchToolbar.dll ()
O3 - HKCU\..\Toolbar\WebBrowser: (Search Toolbar) - {9D425283-D487-4337-BAB6-AB8354A81457} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Search Toolbar\SearchToolbar.dll ()
[Reboot]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot when it is done
  • Then post a new OTL log ( don't check the boxes beside LOP Check or Purity this time )

Your logs indicate that you have Peer-to-Peer software installed on your PC. Peer-to-Peer sites like LimeWire, FinalTorrent, uTorrent and Orbit are a major source of malware problems. It is in your best interest to avoid the sites. I strongly recommend that you remove this (these) program(s) by:
  • Click Start
  • Click Control Panel
  • Click Add/Remove Programs
  • Select (Peer-t0-Peer) program
  • Click Remove
Note: Often removal questions are stated so as to dissuade you from removing the program, please be careful.
Should you decide to not remove Peer – to – Peer software, do not use it until we are done. Continued use of this software will eventually infect you again.

Log to post:
  • OTL
  • How is your PC behaving.
  • Status of GMER

Thanks
Bill
Bill

I ran Gmer and at the end it told me "no new modifications found". I tried to find a Peer to Peer file in my programs and didn't find one listed in my programs to get rid of. I have a feeling this was something my son downloaded at one time, but i'm not finding it in the Program list. The following is a new OTL.txt:

Sherie, the peer-to-peer software I spoke of are, FinalTorrent and uTotrren. They are often used for downloading music and often contain viruses and spyware.
Click on Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features. If you find either of the two programs listed above, right click on the program and select Uninstall.
Bill
Bill I still can't download TFC from the website you direct me to. Is there another site I can try? I did not see either one of those music download programs in my Programs/Features. As for the computer, I think it is running faster and Internet Explorer doesn't seem to be shutting down as much. However, today when I brought up the computer it started to boot up and then went blank and rebooted again. After it came up it gave me a Windows Error something about "recovering from an unexpected shut down". Thanks Sherie
Sherie,
I see in your logs that TFC.exe is on your desktop. If you do not see it on your desktop try, click on start -> typing tfc into the white, one line box just above the Start button, if it shows then just double click on it. If it still doesn't work, I have attached TFC.zip to this post. Copy it to your desktop then double click on it. Right click on TFC.exe and copy. Click on your desktop and click paste. It should then be on your desktop to run. Keep me updated please.
Bill

Bill :woot: I ran the TFC off my desktop that was already there, it ran properly and then rebooted. I think my pc is running faster now since running all these things! Thanks so much for all your help! Sherie

  • Uncheck- Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Also, make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Click OK. (Remember to Hide files and folders once done)

Please go to one of the below sites to scan the following files:

Sherie, Looking better and better, we are almost done now,

Click on Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features
Find LiveUpdate and select uninstall
Find Viewpoint Media Player and select uninstall

Double click on OTL to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt.
Note:These logs can be located in the OTL. folder on you C:\ drive if they fail to open automatically.
Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them both in.

Thanks
Bill
