Hey, When i try to view my device manager list through System on the Hardware tab it comes up with a message saying cannot find the file or missing file refers to mmc.exe. Any suggestions?? Cheers
Hi Sorry to hear of the problem with Device Manager
There are a number of steps you can take. to fix this, but as a start try this:
1 replace mmc.exe with the "Microsoft Management
Console" (mmc.exe) available here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907265/en-us

2 You may be asked to check/install NET Framework 2.0 …if so, its available from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/deta…;displaylang=en

3 If no joy with this then try a "repair install" of Windows, post back if you need directions on how to do that.
Note after completing a "repair install" you may have quite a few Windows Updates to do including service packs…the repair install should not be destructive and your documents, data etc. should not be affected….. note I used the phrase "should not"… It is always wise BEFORE starting any system changes of this nature to check that your latest backup of everything that is important to you on the computer is 100% accurate, up to date reproducible and an extra copy kept safe (and preferably off site) on removable media. Better to be safe than sorry!

4 I have on just a few occasions seen malware have the action of disabling mmc.exe, so if the above does not do the trick for you then it would be wise to visit our virus and spyware removal forum..see here for details:

If you decide to post your logs over there then it would be helpful if you provide them with a link to this topic here.
