this is a file from HijackThis after trying to remove Microsoft Security Essentials by Thinkpoint off of my computer. I'm still getting popups of sites that would download malware (I have WOT for firefox, so I'm not actually sent to the page) and I keep getting errors saying I'm missing various system32 files. There's also processes from svchost trying to access the internet as malware every minute or so (which is being blocked by Avast free edition). Several programs and setting are being reset or crashing. Settings are randomly disappearing, such as all windows come up in windows classic style and there isn't an option for xp style anymore. Could anyone tell me what can be fixed, or if I need to reinstall windows?

By the way, I have an ASUS eee pc, with Avast, Zonealarm, Ad-aware, and firefox installed if you see anything about them.
Also, the way I got rid of the main virus is by running several programs at once, changing the homepage to yahoo, then running HouseCall. The previously programs were stopped suddnely, which might make a change as well.

sorry for the lack of information.

Another problem I have is if I click on a link from a search engine, I'm automatically redirected to a vicious site that tries to download malware or trogen horses.
Hello tsumara :welcome:

Before we begin, I would like to make a few things clear so that we can fix your problem as efficiently as possible:
  • Be sure to follow all my instructions carefully! If there is anything you don''t understand, don't hesitate to ask.
  • Please do not do anything or perform other steps unless I have asked you to do so.
  • Please make sure you post all logs I ask you to, and make sure that the entire log gets posted.

Step 1

[external image: Posted Image] Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here.

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Step 2

  • Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Under the Custom Scan bot paste this in

    netsvcs
    drivers32
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.*
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
    %systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\Results\Install|LastSuccessTime /rs

  • Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTListIt.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them all in.

Things I would like to see in your reply:
  • MBAM Log
  • OTL.txt and Extras.txt
