Empty Desktop

We have a Dell Inspiron 1710 running windows XP Pro. On log-on and boot-up we can get the desktop wallpaper, but no icons, no task and toobars or start menu. We can open task manager and no applications are running and all processes are shown and are 00 CPU usage. What do I do?

Try hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL keys all at the same time. This should brink up your Task Manager. Click on the New Task… button in the lower right of the window.

Type Explorer.exe in the box and click OK.

Did you get your icons back?

I think tomk has suggest you for the right thing. Did you get the solution by doing that?
