hi all, i am using windows 7 ultimate, 2g ram, Pentium 805. last night i started to receive the "message windows explorer has stopped working" and then it goes to "windows explorer is restarting". it is an endless loop. i have to go to task manager and end the process. i did an anti malware bytes scan..nothing..as well as a few other scans..all showed nothing.. i started in safe mode and all though those 2 message windows dont show up the same process is occurring, the desk top and tool bar goes and then returns. in safe mode i can not double click anything and get it to work (i went to safe mode to try and redo the anitmal scan). but in regular mode, if i am quick enough and can get the short cuts to work. I've tried system restore, that didn't help, i tried the repair option at start up (the one where it analyzes start up and makes repairs if needed..it wasnt..) that didn't help either. perhaps it is just coincidence but it does seem to have started after having installed divx. i uninstalled that and it hasnt helped. i went to the event viewer and then i went to task manager and restarted explorer so that i could make sure that i found the correct info.this is what it says under the "general tab" Log Name: Application Source: Application Error Date: 10/2/2010 2:04:28 PM Event ID: 1000 Task Category: (100) Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: Owner-PC Description: Faulting application name: explorer.exe, version: 6.1.7600.16450, time stamp: 0x4aeba271 Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16559, time stamp: 0x4ba9b21e Exception code: 0xc0000374 Fault offset: 0x000c2913 Faulting process id: 0x129c Faulting application start time: 0x01cb625c3c8e581f Faulting application path: C:\Windows\explorer.exe Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll Report Id: 7eef0da9-ce4f-11df-bc22-0015f2cd2bbb and this is under the "details tab" - System - Provider [ Name] Application Error - EventID 1000 [ Qualifiers] 0 Level 2 Task 100 Keywords 0x80000000000000 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2010-10-02T18:04:28.000000000Z EventRecordID 10213 Channel Application Computer Owner-PC Security - EventData explorer.exe 6.1.7600.16450 4aeba271 ntdll.dll 6.1.7600.16559 4ba9b21e c0000374 000c2913 129c 01cb625c3c8e581f C:\Windows\explorer.exe C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll 7eef0da9-ce4f-11df-bc22-0015f2cd2bbb thank you in advance..
oops..ok..this could take some doing considering that its EXTREMELY difficult to get to anything. but i will try. its not a big deal to me, they are just a couple of things
ok..i did what i could (that also includes what i remember)..some files i just had no luck with because the "explorer" problem was just to fast in appearing
See post #6 by JohnBuk [Msft] in this thread: Faulting Application Error for a possible way to approach this problem. His post starts out with Typicall this problem is caused by non Microsoft Explorer Shell Extensions and recommends AutoRuns for Windows to troubleshoot.

Worth a look.
Yes it did complete. I will try that, but if I do have to do a repair intsall do I use the windows 7 cd or the recovery oneal that the seller from ebay sent (remember I upgraded to 7? Also would the repair install mess up the overclocking?
Hi cld, On reading this topic it appears that you may have had some "cracked" programs on your machine…and oldman960 quite properly drew your attention to our Terms of Use. It was noticed then that you had edited one of your posts, and there is no reference to "cracked" programs in your posts. For the record will you please confirm that any "cracked" programs that may have been installed, have now been uninstalled. This will enable us to continue providing you with assistance in these forums. Regards paws
Hi paws, I edited not because I was trying To fool anybody, afterall it was read already & the link to the terms were posted, it was edited because I didnt want my thread ignored. Posts 3 & 4 state that I did take care of the issue to the best of my ability considering the issues I am experiencing. I apologize for any confusion I may have caused.
No problem cld and thanks for responding. As you have no "cracked" programs on your computer, assistance on the WTT forums is fully available. Regards paws
You can't do a Repair with a OEM supplied Recovery CD, you will have to use a normal Win 7 DVD. Brings up something to think about though. Since you have the Recovery DVD, maybe it would be better to save your data then do a full recovery using the OEM DVD. That is guaranteed to fix the problem. You could try the Repair Install first though, but please make sure you back up your data before doing anything else.
hi Ztruker, its not an oem supplied disk. when i purchased the pc on ebay i asked the guy to make recovery cd's and he did. afterward i decided to upgrade to win 7, as a side note, unrelated to this, i think its SO messed up that if one has vista ultimate (which is what the pc came with) and wants to upgrade to win 7 you have to spend 200!!! win 7 ultimate because you cant put any other version!!! ok back on track…sorry…as i stated its not oem disks and i upgraded…so would i be using the win 7 for the repair install?
