Microsoft provides a tool called the Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) to help concerned users check their machines for security vulnerabilities.

Recently tested my computer with this excellent tool.

The MBSA creates a security log which contains easy to read info on many vulnerabilities that may exist and how to correct them.

Some critical checks:
Missing Office Security Update
Missing Developer Tools, Runtimes, and Redistributables Security Updates
Missing Windows Security Updates
Missing SDK Components Security Updates
Missing SQL Server Security Updates
Local Account Password Test
Restrict Anonymous Access
State of installed potentially unnecessary services
Secure settings of Internet Explorer
Macro Security
and more …

Advice: use this tool to check your PC for security flaws.

Remember

Windows XP Automatic Updates option don't download and install Security Updates for MS Office!

Hmmmmmmmm, does this apply to Vista and Windows 7?
I recommend that you install Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer and check eventually missing Security Updates for Windows 7, including Critical Security Updates for MS Office 2007. With this simple test you can check machine for security vulnerabilities from time to time. arTech
