I have a slow computer, especially when windows starts and opening the firefox browser is really slow. I have done all necessary malware procedures, here is the link if u need to see any other info. http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?showtopic=114113
Click on Start then Run, type msconfig and press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Reboot and see if it runs normal.
If yes then use msconfig to enable several items at a time till you find the culprit.
If no, boot to Safe Mode again, start msconfig and click on the Services tab.
Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Again, do a regular boot, see if it runs normal.
If yes then use msconfig to enable services till you find the culprit.
Once you've found the culprit, uninstall it or find out how to eliminate it from your system.
Simply disabling it in msconfig is a temporary fix at best.
Enable everything else you disabled.

Nero is your CD/.DVD burning software so don't delete it.
MSN Messenger may be part of Windows Live. Why do you think it's causing problems? Did you disable it and things got better?
Hey rich,
yer it seems to be better when i have disabled msn messenger and some other programs such as Java update called jusched, and openoffice.org. Some programs i need but msn messenger i rarely use??
I just wasn't sure if i should delete windows live, it might screw my hotmail up or something??
What should i do now??
Cheers

I would leave Windows Live. The others you can get rid of, but I believe MSN Messenger comes with Windows Live so not sure if you can truely get rid of it. Wort a try though.
Hey Rich,
My system is running reasonably smoothly at the moment with some of the startup programs disabled!
Just to confirm which ones to delete, can you have a browse over my startup list that i have copy/pasted for you.
Also I tried deleting msn messenger last week and it still comes up under the startup list, could you help me remove this app; and the other one's if possible??
