Hi,
My laptop is infected with the above virus and I can't get rid of it. I would like to know if:
1. I can do this myself, or should I take it in.
2. Should I just do a restore? (Which I really don't want to do)

I was running FSecure through WOW provider, had AdAware on the machine, and was using Firefox as my browser. I tried to get rid of it using both AdAware and malwarebytes. It seems to find it, but after I restart, it just comes back. (After reading some things on your forum, I've learned that maybe I should have done something in safe mode, which I didn't)

This virus seems to be affecting Firefox the most, IE is what I've been working in now. It makes the cursor flash repeatedly, then it stops and freezes the screen. Then I wasn't able to even close Firefox.

After the last "repair", I noticed that the hibernate function on my shutdown menu in windows was GONE! Is that the same problem or something else?

I also downloaded some free version of Kapersky, but I couldn't seem to do anything with it.

I'm not getting anywhere by myself, so am about ready to take it in. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to learn. :)
Thank you.

DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision.

Doing so could make your pc inoperatible and could require a full reinstall of your OS, losing all your programs and data.

Vista and Windows 7 users:
1. These tools MUST be run from the executable. (.exe) every time you run them
2. With Admin Rights (Right click, choose "Run as Administrator")

Can you run another Malwarebytes scan and post the results?
Here is the most current full scan, it found nothing. Below is the one that did find it. When I loaded my machine today, adaware was shut down. I'll also run that and post it.

This one you got from the internet C:\Windows\Temp\TMP00000001F1792D3FA47BAC14 (Trojan.Dropper) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully. Have you cleaned the temp files? C:\Windows\Temp <–Delete all files in this folder I believe This one is from what f-secure quarantined Description: c:\program files (x86)\f-secure pc protection plus\fsaua\content\aquawin32\1281103944\cevakrnl.rvd Family Name: Trojan-Clicker.HTML.IFrame (v) Engine: 3 Clean status: Success Item ID: 1 Family ID: 0 MD5: 54f0021ac45fedb8f347cd36fa9f70fd
Ok, that was a crazy amount of stuff in the temp file! Thanks. I'm not sure anything was found from FSecure, I was actually starting to wonder if it was coming in through there. The only programs to find a problem were Adaware and Malwarebytes, as far as I know. I opened Firefox earlier and it seemed gone, but it did before too. And, my hibernate function is still gone from the startup menu.
1. Open a Command Prompt window from Start Menu > Accessories using Administrative privileges (“Run as Administrator” option using right click on the Command Prompt menu). 2. Type powercfg.exe /hibernate on 3. The prompt should be back without any output. The Hibernate option should be back in your Start Menu now.
That is amazing! Thanks! Did the virus knock that function out?
Is there anything else I need to do as far as removal? Or, should it be gone?
Would you suggest removing FSecure? Keeping Adaware, scanning with Malwarebytes? Someone suggested AVG. I am now considering purchasing something like McAfee or Norton's for protection.

I appreciate the help so much!
Thanks,
Carrie

Did the virus knock that function out?

I don't think so. It's a Vista issue

Is there anything else I need to do as far as removal? Or, should it be gone?

It's gone

Would you suggest removing FSecure? Keeping Adaware, scanning with Malwarebytes? Someone suggested AVG. I am now considering purchasing something like McAfee or Norton's for protection.

I would suggest you purchase Malwarebytes if you're going to purchse anything.
IMO, there's no reason to purchase a Anti-Virus program while there are good free ones.
If you want to remove f-secure, here's some free ones to try.

Only run one AVG at a time.

Use an AntiVirus Software - Choose only one - More than one will conflict. It is very important that your computer has anti-virus software running to protect against viruses. Update Antivirus prior to manual scans as necessary or as used. Please only choose one, having more than one can cause problems, such as crashes and your computer to slow down.

So, in your opinion, how does F-Secure rate? I've heard great things about Avast and AVG, but have only used Norton's(Free trial) and F-Secure.
Should I now get rid of the AdAware, or keep it on and just run it to scan?

Thanks for your patience with this, it is a little confusing. I know windows has some sort of protection running periodically as well.
But, all in all, this virus got through.
I use MSE myself but have heard that Avast is good. AVG has gotten bloated with everything it installs and runs. I don't know about F-Secure as I haven't used it. If you purchase MBAM, you won't need Ad-Aware. Todays infections will try to fool / disable any protection you have in order to infect. It doesn't matter what programs you have. Some protection programs are better than others but none will protect you 100%. I stay away from downloading any music, videos and try to be careful of what websites I visit. I don't use Face Book or any other social sites nor visit porn sites.
Thanks for the tips. Yeah, that's what I felt about paying for Norton's or McAfee: these viruses are designed to be new, get in, and not have protection against it.

I will check out the ones you suggested. I hear ya on being careful, but I'm not sure I can give up FB :) (I already found What the Tech? on there and posted how great you were!)

Thanks again for all the help!

I have no issues with sites such as FB. Most of my friends / family use it daily. You just have to be VERY careful of the information you post and where you go, but that is with any site. Opening email / email attachments is another issue.

We're glad you found us on FB. Spread the word we're here to help

You're more than welcome.
Glad we were able to help

Peace be with you :wavey:
