hi lee, thank you for the outline.
really #4 over 3? i was thinking #3 because in the images it shows where it can be overclocked with some sort of interface (btw its 47 after the discount and rebate ).
i didnt see where 4 was overclocked maybe i just didnt understand the term that might have been used.
Yes it is factory overclocked. That means the manufacturers overclocked it. Which also means the card's warranty remains valid.
Card 3 is a 9500GT and is cheap because it is a very old card. Advertising that it can be overclocked, is just a sales pitch to try to convince a potential buyer they are getting a better card than they are paying for.Sure it was a good card …once upon a time
Did it also say in the advert. that if you overclock the card your warranty immediately becomes non-existent? I bet it didn't!
Home overclocking is NOT a good idea. Most cards can be overclocked by the user if they know how (not so easy to do either). A 'fried' video Card is often the result, especially without replacing the standard cooling fan with something more beefier (more cost).
I recently sold an old 7600GT card that was factory overclocked and that was a very stable, rock solid card. Don't expect the same results from home overclocking
Card 4. is at least DX 10.1 compliant for starters and Card 3 is not. Just one main reason I would buy Card 4. There are other technical reasons but I'm not going into that here. The final choice is obviously yours, not mine. If you only want a card that will solve your resolution problems, buy the cheapest of cards 1 to 4. If it is going to be used for any gaming (I've done a lot of that) or home theater and for that price bracket, card 4 remains my prime choice, but I would check out prices for it's sister the 220. If there is not a big difference, that would be the one !
Anyhow, good luck with whatever card you decide buy.
Cheers,
Lee
EDIT PS.
Please remember my opinions here are based on the low price bracket of these cards only. Even Card 4, my final choice would be a bit hopeless for 2008-20010 games even at a 800x600 screen resolution on a smallish screen and nor would any of the cards be suitable for HIGH definition Video (the 220 I mentioned maybe ….just). You would have to at least double your price bracket if these 2 considerations are important.
A very good card for that price.
Don't use the Display Driver off the disk (best to use NOTHING off the disk) !
Go to this ATI driver support page where you will find the W7 driver you need.for a Radeon HD 4…. series cards (any 4 series and all brands).
Cheers,
Lee.
hey guys the above card states that it needs a 400w psu, currently i have a 380w, do you think i could get away with using that? if not, please explain why, thank you in advance

400w ?
Who told you that? :
My wife has been running a 9800GT off a 300w PSU for the last 2yrs!
You would be fine with a 250w PSU for a $50 card.
Check here: http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp for your system power requirements with everything running at 100% , and note the recommended PSU. You will get a shock and think the site is way out (their fairly accurate actually.).
All retailers (and PSU makers] are quite happy to let customers think they need a far more powerful PSU than they really do. It's all about $$$.
i found that it the system requirements section for that card as well as a number of others.
but yeah that would make perfect sense to me, perhaps if i was running 2 cards then i would have to be concerned w upgrading the psu.
thank you so much! you saved money that i really dont have.
You might have entered the info incorrectly. Even my system doesn't require that (9800GT, same as my wife's card).
Anyway I might be wrong so I'll check my system again later as I'm pressed for time now. at 12.30pm Sat. here in Oz.
