:pullhair: My tale of woe began a few months ago with constant warnings of maxed out memory. Browsers stalling. Apps quitting for no reason. Scripts looping endlessly in browser. Long story short I've tried many fixes, fixed some issues (I'm not sure how??) nothings worked for the memory overload. In the meantime I've managed to royally screw up the rest. I'm now seriously considering wiping my hard drive & starting over.

Current problems list

Memory bogs, maxes out at 100% for long periods, Kaspersky & Browsers seem to be the big users, Kaspersky's big, browsers huge. avp.exe shows twice? on task manager
All of the normal issues you get when your memory hits the wall, mostly stalls of the browser or anything else that's running, toggling on the task manager seems to "break" this loop, leads me to think that some kind of script is looping.
Java has failed, I received messages to turn on Java, it was "on". Tried to re-install got error messages, download corrupt, installs to 95% then I get message, "Installation failed cannot find .jre file"
Certain websites have the most significant "buttons" missing, you know like "log in", "submit". They're on the page, I can find them by mousing over. They're just not visible
IExplorer 8 stopped working
Attempts to download update driver from Intel for motherboard failed. Once again download ok, installation fails "program tried to end in strange way. contact admin." ( thats me!!)
System restore., yes I did try that too, only goes back 3 months, although I've set a dozen restore points before that

I expect to find small pools of diarrhea behind my desk

If I did'nt know better I'd think I had a hideous virus, Kaspersky says no, Malwarebytes & TrendMicro says I'm ok, Ace Utilities & Regscrub, I run daily, I'm a good person. why is this happening to me!
Any way I did the "GetSystemInfo" how do I get it to you?
Hi and welcome to the WTT forums
:welcome:
I've moved your post here from the "Windows made easy" forum.
Sorry to hear about the problems with your machine.

Long story short I've tried many fixes, fixed some issues (I'm not sure how??) nothings worked for the memory overload. In the meantime I've managed to royally screw up the rest. I'm now seriously considering wiping my hard drive & starting over.

On the forum by long range its going to be very difficult to diagnose let alone fix the problems in a timely way…
May be its time for you to start again, especially if you have not reloaded your operating and applications recently…

If you have a disc image (using Acronis, Ghost, Paragon or one of the free disc imaging applications, then you can have the machine up and running in less time than it takes to walk the dog. If you have to format and reinstall Windows from scratch using the Microsoft Installation disc then it will take 45 mins or so + the time needed for updates and installing your applications and setting up your email/Internet. If you have the computer manufacturers Recovery Disc(s) or a "Recovery Partition on your hard drive then this time frame can be shortened considerably.
Before you embark on any of these steps make sure that your back up is 100% accurate, up to date, reproducible and kept safe on removable media, and that you have all your driver discs/files handy together with your application serial keys (including your Windows serial key.)
Post back if you need help on any of this.
Reloading your system is quite a big step, so think carefully before proceeding, providing your problems are not hardware related……then it usually provides a good result.

Paws, I actually think I'm making progress. I've learned from the Kaspersky site that the slowdown & memory consumption was something they did, ( they also killed Kenny, bastards) and released in a past update!! Nice of them to let users know by quietly posting in an obscure tech bulletin. They have a patch and promise to issue it soon. In the meantime that problem seems to have diminished (maybe it was in the last update). In any event I don't think I want to do the disc wipe. My experience with repairs is dubious. Today I attempted to run the tests your site recommends, DDS, OTL & Hijack this, got them all done, but along the way…. wanted to print the instructions & close your website…. Tried to print, ink cartridge is empty, off to staples, install new cartridge, no print, look for HP toolbox to run print setup, its gone. How? when? anyway… download from HP disc all goes ok. until I try to finish, notified that driver in orig docs is older than the one installed, download quits. I then try to print I'm informed the driver has been corrupted by the download process. Long story short, I fixed this, but this is a common experience with fixes. It looks so easy, 5 simple steps, I get to 3 or 4 & GLITCH, by the time I've downloaded additional fixes I'm so far from the original glitch I've forgotten what the problem was, but hey, look I got a cursor that looks like a dragon. Rant rant. if you concur I'd like to attempt forwarding the logs I've saved for review & critique, How do I do this?, do I need to zip the files?, what software?do I send as e-mail?
Hi Ok, I hear your tale of woe!
Sounds as though you are having a rough time…..the logs you mention are to be used if you suspect that your computer is infected and want assistance over in the malware removal forum…..Here's the link:
http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?showtopic=106388
Please note that we do not deal with malware removal anywhere than in the forum shown in the link directly above.

You don't need any special software to post your logs…just copy and paste them into your topic (but please read the instructions carefully as we dont want to see your logs posted in the wrong place (it makes the search engines angry!)
Just to recap if you want to "copy and paste" then highlight all the text you want to copy, hold down the Ctrl key and press c its usually written as Ctrl+c then when you want to paste it, use Ctrl+v

If the malware fighters find that your logs indicate "no malware present" then they will refer you back here to this forum……… If I pick up your post I'll still recommend that you consider a reload of Windows and your Applications (so make sure your backup /archive/copy is "firefroof") However others of our members may have other suggestions ……as always its your call.
