The work computer was it formatted and a fresh install of the OS put on it? Is this at your home or at work?
Outlook Bak files are the backup files which would include the messages and addresses.
Itunes files can be deleted to pickup space.
No it was originally bought as a work mainframe backup machine , but little used. I took it over as is without any changes or formatting, etc and now have it at home, the company is no longer in existance and I do not have operating system disks(Windows).
OK that tells me there is probably a lot of unused programs and files not needed anymore.
Have you tried to go through Add\Remove in the Control Panel to see what you don't need?
That may clear out unwanted programs and open more space.
Another option would be to purchase a XP installation and do a fresh install with your own XP and reg key. This would bring the system back to the least amount of programs and you could then reload what you want on it.
The system would for all intensive purposes be like a new system with your own OS installed. This would speed the system up since there would be no residual data or programs installed then.
There were hardly any programs except XP and Office on there when I took it over. Also not many files either, maybe it had never been used for the work job. I knew the administrator who put the iTunes on there, I think he just kept the machine as a standby unit mostly, so there were hardly any files on there.
So is it possible to remove the Guest folder or is that formed when the OS was loaded and become a part of the system files hard to remove ?
You can go into the Accounts in the Control Panel and remove the Guest Account.
This should remove any files associated with that account form the system.
The question is does Crucial tell you the maximum memory your system can hold and in what configuration?
You may need 2 x 512 megs modules or you may be able to put just one 1 gig memory module in.
I would highly suggest going to the 1 gig but you need to make sure of the configuration your system is capable of.
Well they said machine can take max 2Gb memory and I know that is right, but did not say in what configuration. However they wrongly reported in the scan that it had just one 512Mb and one empty slot, instead of the two 256Mb it actually has.

I take it you opened it up and verified it actually has 2 memory modules in it then?
It should be able to accept 2 x 1 gig modules then for a total of 2 gigs.
Only needed to open the external one to see that it has a 256Mb and we already know from multiple sources that it has 512Mb installed alltogether, so the inner must have 256Mb also.
But will I gain anything by going to 2Gb, as I don't run graphics or use multiple programs , etc, mainly text files and some photos.
Speed and the amount of programs you can have open at one time.
Lets see exactly what is installed.
Push and hold the Windows key on keyboard. This is the one with the Microsft windows logo on it.
While holding Win key down click on the Pause\Break key
This should open the System properties window
On this window it will show System info:
Microsoft Windows: type and version Service Pack number
Registered Name
Register Number
Computer: CPU type Memory
I need all the above info in your next reply Except for Register name and number.
This is private and we don't need to know this information
