hi guys, firstly i guess i will have to explan what have i done
since my pc keep crashing to desktop while i was playing "oblivion",
i have found this "instruction" somewhere

Assuming your My Docs Folder and Game Folder are both on C:
1: Turn off 'simple file sharing'.
2: Get properties on C: and hit the Security tab.
3: Remove everything in there.
4: Click add and type Administrators then click Ok. (And nothing more unless you have a specific reason why)
5: Make sure all the boxes below are checked to allow.
6: Click the Advanced Button.
7: At the bottom, click "Replace permission entries on all child objects…" so it has a tick.
8: Click ok, and on the box beneath, click ok on that too.
It will reset your drives permissions to give full access on C: to admins only. Sometimes this gets notgood up and needs to be reset. This will take a while depending how much stuffs on your hard drive.

i follow it and it really makes no different,
so i turn off my pc and want to left it for tomorrow.

so when today i start up my pc,here is what happening now

my pc don't ask me to login before, now it do
it takes more then a minute to login EVERY TIME,
and every times some thing like "setting your cumsomize setting" pop up.

Sound card is not working any more

the "window bar" at the bottom are not working correctly

i go to the control panel, try to open up the "user account setting",and it's empty
i try to start up the system recovory, and it said something like "the system recovory cannot protect your window now, please restart blahblahblah"
of course restart never help…

i've try to use my ccleaner to see if i can recovor my system,
but the system recovory log are EMPTY,

hope some one could help me with this
and sorry for my bad english… :(
Hello manmanchan, Welcome to WTT. I am very sorry to hear about your problems. Before we go any further could you provide all your system specifications and where you got the "instructions" from. I am very concerned that there is a website passing out this type of information. Thanks, Nahumi

i blame myself :(

thanks for the welcome Nahumi,
glad to see someone relying so fast!
and sorry for my bad english again
Okay, I just found the "instructions" on a different Tech forum. It was being used specifically for a Need for Speed Carbon issue. The reason it's a fix in that particular case is that the user knew that their account was specifically an Administrator account. In your case, it may be that you had multiple accounts and that the account you used was not an administrator account. If this is the case, then you essentially deleted the security access for your main account. To verify that you only deleted the security settings for your main account, we need to make sure that your Administrator account is still working : 1. Restart your machine. 2. Begin pressing F8 repeatedly until the Windows Advanced Options Menu comes up. 3. Choose "Start Windows in Safe Mode". If all goes well you should be logged in as Administrator and most things should work, including the Task bar. If it does, let me know and I can talk you through setting up a new account in Safe Mode. If it doesn't work, then I think I'll need to point you over to our Malware specialists to check whether you have any infections.
well…after poking around, i am kind of sure that i did screw up the Administrator account too :pullhair: and the window bar is not working with any user account in safe mode too so…do i have to recreate a Admin account?
Sorry for taking a while to get back to you. Unfortunately I think the best option right now is to try backing up all your documents and to try an XP Repair Install. You'll need to find your XP Installation Disc before we go any further. I'll talk you through all the steps to backup your documents before we try repairing XP.
SYSTEM also needs full control to files on the computer. The problem with those instructions provided on the website is that they should've never told you to delete anything.

Before performing a repair, you can try the procedure under the "Advanced Troubleshooting" section of this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377

You can use the automated fix, or do it manually. Whatever you want. This should restore the correct permissions on your system.
