This all started when I went to change my desktop, and suddenly the PC rebooted. Freedom caught something with StartPage in the title. After many virus wipes & Spybot/AdAware goings-over, I seem to be virus-free, but I'm left with the constant home-page re-set alert. If I let it go, the CPU goes full-on to 100% and the new IE 'page is about:blank. I must hit "restore…" six times to get it back to my orig. homepage. I don't use IE as my browser, but hitting any desktop function triggers the alerts, and they appear randomly anyway. A very small window makes the occasional appearance with the message "No modem found."
Anyway, here's my HJT, and I've gone ahead & downloaded (but not installed yet) Findnfix & reglite. Help!

This is the log after I've restored the old values;

Click here to download CWShredder by Merijn Bellekom and run it, hit 'fix' as opposed to 'scan only'. Reboot when done.

Install Registrar Lite, run, copy and paste this line to reglite's address bar:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs

and hit the "go" tab. Find: "Appinit_Dlls" value on the right side panel, DoubleClick, copy and post here the information in the 'Value' field.

Double-click on the FINDnFIX.exe and it will install a folder called FINDnFIX on your system. Go to that folder and double-click on !LOG!.bat. The program takes a few minutes to collect the necessary information. When done post the contents of Log.txt in this thread.

OK, we've found the hijacker. Let's see if we can get rid of the virus before we remove CWS.

Go here and run online scans (all), allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan

Reboot when done. Rescan with HJT and post a new log here.
Hello - I ran PandaScan and it found 3 viruses & deleted them (none was the above-mentioned); TrendMicro wouldn't work ("MSN has encountered a problem and must close…" message), and after 10 minutes of waiting (twice-tried), the eTrust page wouldn't fully load, with a 'Not responding' message.

The new HJT;

:angry: this is just driving me nutso.
Open the FINDnFIX folder and then open the keys1 folder. Right-click on the MOVEit.bat file and select 'edit'. That will open the file as an empty text file - copy and paste this line into the blank file:

move %WinDir%\System32\LOGAID.DLL %SystemDrive%\junkxxx\LOGAID.DLL

Save the file and close. The next step will cause a restart. Still in the keys1 folder, double click on FIX.bat. You will get an alert of about 15 seconds before reboot - allow it to reboot.

On restart, open the FINDnFIX folder again and double-click on RESTORE.bat. When it is finished, in FINDnFIX folder, there will be a file called Log1.txt - post it's contents in your next reply.

Occasionally when trying to edit the MOVEit.bat file the following error occurs: "Windows cannot find "C:FINDnFIX\keys1\MOVEit.bat. Make sure you typed the name correctly then try again."

If that happens, skip that step and proceed this way instead. In the keys1 folder, double click on FIX.bat. You will get an alert of about 15 seconds before reboot - allow it to reboot. On restart, open Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\System32 folder, find the LOGAID.DLL file (it should be visible now). Highlight the file and using top menu, click Edit>Move to folder…

Select C:\junkxxx as destination. Move the file.

Open the FINDnFIX folder again and double-click on RESTORE.bat. When it is finished, in FINDnFIX folder, there will be a file called Log1.txt - post it's contents in your next reply.

Good. :D Nearly there, open the FINDnFIX folder again and open the Files2 folder. Double-click on the ZIPZAP.bat. It will quickly clean the rest and will make a copy of the bad file(s) in the same folder (junkxxx.zip) and open your email client with instructions. Simply drag and drop the junkxxx.zip file from the folder into the mail message and submit to the specified addresses.

Please be sure to include a link to this thread in the body of your email. Reboot when done, then delete the entire FINDnFIX folder. Rescan with HJT and post a new log in your next reply.
Sent it off, deleted FindnFix & rebooted. Here's the HJT while I wait for the reply;

With only HJT running, have it fix:

Reboot and you should be good to go. How is it running now?
Before I do that; my my message to the crapware people didn't go through. I was informed 10 minutes later of this and in that time I deleted FindnFix. Went back to 100Free.com to re-download and it said the page no longer exists. Dipped into my recycling bin and un-deleted FindnFix, followed the instructions above again, but this time Logaid.dll is not there, where it was the first time I ran FindnFix. Is this a one-time only program?!
Anyway, I'll try the HJT fix & see…

Alright! After rebooting, no warnings, and theIE homepage is where it used to be, so I guess it's so far so good. I ran the HJT again & here's the report;

If this looks good, then I just might be clear (be a few days before I stop feeling wary)…
:lol: Woop! Running great! Thanks X 1,000,000! Wish I had a credit card so I could donate! (some day… some day…) Now, is anyone coming up with a program to catch these things before they get in?! (be nice to rid cyberspace of Thawteserver, too…) Once again, THANKS!
You're welcome - glad to help :D
