Ok I did something foolish. I did not remember to immediately reactivate my antispyware program and now I have an inconvienent infection. I have that generic one that pops up and states that your system is infected and click here to get rid of it and it gives you all kinds of infiltration alerts etc.. At one time I think it went through all the years in names like Antivirus2009 and Antivirus 2010. This one is called antispyware soft. I cannot return my avg to on nor can I run any of my antispyware programs to get rid of it. Usually I can run malwarebytes and it finds it and cleans it. But I have to go about it another way. I also did not want to do anything without letting you know. Is there some link I can click on that will get rid of this easily. sorry to have thrown a wrench into the mix and just when we were making progress. BTW – I can't see websites in ie at all now. I get this message to start: "Internet Explorer Warning - visiting this web site may harm your computer!" Please don't laugh or throw your hands up. It was a stupid error – one I shall not soon if ever repeat. Help…… PS Once I close a program and try to reopen it, I get the message that the file is infected. Solitaire, antispyware, notepad, anything, so i don't want to close this browser yet for fear that I can't reopen it to see you reply.
Hello mickey7,please do the following

Download Rkill and save to your desktop

Double-click on the rkill.com in order to automatically attempt to stop any processes associated with the rogue programs.
If you get a message that rkill is an infection, do not be concerned. This message is just a fake warning given by Antispyware Soft when it terminates programs that may potentially remove it. If you run into these infections warnings that close Rkill, a trick is to leave the warning on the screen and then run Rkill again

Now try to run Malwarebytes,post the log if succesful.
Thanks worked like a charm… Here is the Malwarebytes log: PS IE is back to not showing webpages again…. :( Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.46 www.malwarebytes.org Database version: 4126 Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702 5/21/2010 7:04:56 PM mbam-log-2010-05-21 (19-04-56).txt Scan type: Quick scan Objects scanned: 131526 Time elapsed: 6 minute(s), 35 second(s) Memory Processes Infected: 0 Memory Modules Infected: 0 Registry Keys Infected: 4 Registry Values Infected: 4 Registry Data Items Infected: 0 Folders Infected: 0 Files Infected: 5 Memory Processes Infected: (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Infected: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\avsuite (Rogue.AntivirusSuite) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully. COMBOFIX-Script

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    Folder::
    c:\documents and settings\KM\Local Settings\Application Data\oornvftoa
    c:\documents and settings\KM\Local Settings\Application Data\joinvntxc
  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

  • If you need help to disable your protection programs see here.
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

If Combofix asks to update click yes
OK here is the latest scan:

Can you run rkill on a mac? and what antispyware would you use to kill the infection? Apparently my co-worker has a MAC and states she has the same infection of Antispyware Soft. I hear on Friday of no less that 3 or 4 people with it in this area. Nasty little bugger.
I don't know of any tools you can run on a mac though i will ask and get back to you on that.

Please do the following.

COMBOFIX-Script

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    Folder::
    c:\documents and settings\KM\Local Settings\Application Data\uipxdkppd

    DDS::
    DPF: {D8AA889B-2C65-47C3-8C16-3DCD4EF76A47}
    uInternet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:5555
  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".

I need you to run the following scan: Eset Online Scanner
  • Place a check mark in the box YES, I accept the Terms Of Use
  • Click the Start button.
  • Now click the Install button.
  • Click Start. The scanner engine will initialize and update.
  • Do Not place a check mark in the box beside Remove found threats.
  • Click the Scan button. The scan will now run, please be patient.
  • When the scan finishes click the Details tab.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the C:\ProgramFiles\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt into your next reply.

In your next reply please post the following
  • Combofix log
  • ESET log
  • How is it running now
Thanks for looking into that for me. She is in a panic– don't know how she got it on a MAC. I will run the scans later. At work at present. Thanks again for your patience.

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".

Preventing Infections in the Future

Please also have a look at the following links, giving some advice and Tips to protect yourself against malware and reduce the potential for re-infection:

  • Avoid gaming sites, underground web pages, pirated software sites, and peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing programs. They are a security risk which can make your computer susceptible to a smörgåsbord of malware infections, remote attacks, exposure of personal information, and identity theft. Many malicious worms and Trojans spread across P2P file sharing networks, gaming and underground sites. Users visiting such pages may see innocuous-looking banner ads containing code which can trigger pop-up ads and Flash ads that install viruses, Trojans and spyware. Ads are a target for hackers because they offer a stealthy way to distribute malware to a wide range of Internet users. The best way to reduce the risk of infection is to avoid these types of web sites and not use any P2P applications. Read P2P Software User Advisories and Risks of File-Sharing Technology.

Update Non-Microsoft Programs

It is also a good idea to check for the latest versions of commonly installed applications that are regularly patched to fix vulnerabilities. You can check these by visiting Secunia Software Inspector and Calendar of Updates.

Thats it you are good to go.Safe surfing
OK done and done. There are still some things on my desktop. Eset and a few log files can I go ahead a delete them? And could you recommend a supplementary firewall for the computer that shouldn't conflict with my router's firewall. (This is a reason that the windows one is usually turned off.) PS since the first disabling of my AVG it no longer appears in my systray. Is there a way to put it back there? No matter what I try– I can't seem to make it appear there. It makes it easier to see it there and know its enabled than to just assume or click on the desktop icon.
