sllo after anti virus soft

Hi i had anti virus soft and i couldnt use my computer so my nephew came down and helped he got it going but it is really slow now and when i turn it on it always says firewall disable for a min. or two then its on. long time to shut down and freezing a lot i am not that techey so take it easy on me thanks windows xp home sp3, ie 8. thanks
