I have just found this forum and am wondering if I have managed to get rid of “XP antivirus 2010” completely?
So what I did before getting to this site:
Computer was completely locked. Could not run/open Task Manager, regedit, any exe file, firewall turned off and loads of messages from “XP antivirus 2010” AVG not running.

So after looking at various sites I turned off everything at startup in MSconfig this enable me to start Task Manager and turn of the av.exe process.
Link Removed LDT:

I was logged in as administrator but still unable to open Malwarebytes or any other exe. I then right clicked on Malwarebytes and used “run as” and got it started and ran a full scan and it detected lots of problems, I chose to remove them all, which probably included the system folders?

I then started AVG and it found no problems, but about an hour later AVG reported that it had found:
"Infection";"Virus identified Win32/Cryptor";"C:\System Volume Information\_restore{E86981ED-44DD-46C2-A911-E1648F9D34E8}\RP764\A0069049.exe";"";"08/03/2010, 07:15:33"
I moved it to the Virus Vault.

I found your site and used ATFcleaner and then ran Malwarebytes again and got 1 more problem:

But your site indicates there may still be hidden problems?

So I have now followed your further instructions at http://forums.whatthetech.com/you_Infected_t106388.html

(Backdoor.Bot)

Whether you wish to continue with cleaning or not, you should be aware that you may have been infected by a backdoor trojan. This type of program has the ability to steal passwords and other information from your system. If you are using your computer for sensitive purposes such as internet banking then I recommend you take the following steps immediately:
  • Use another, uninfected computer to change all your internet passwords, especially ones with financial implications such as banks, paypal, ebay, etc. You should also change the passwords for any other site you use.
  • Call your bank(s), credit card company or any other institution which may be affected and advise them that your login/password or credit card information may have been stolen and ask what steps to take with regard to your account.
  • Consider what other private information could possibly have been taken from your computer and take appropriate steps
This infection can almost certainly be cleaned, but as the malware could be configured to run any program a remote attacker requires, it will be impossible to be 100% sure that the machine is clean, if this is unacceptable to you then you should consider reformatting the system partition and reinstalling Windows as this is the only 100% sure answer.

Please post back to let me know how you wish to proceed.
Thanks very much for the prompt reply. After a bit of thought and a lot of disc searching I have decided to reformat and reinstall everything as most info is backed up. Thanks again for your response. :pullhair:
