antivirus 2010 virus

the other day antivirus 2010 virus jumped onto my pc. after a friend searched the websites for me, he told me to take my system to a restore point and then run an antivirus scan to get it removed. after i did the restore point the problems that occurred from the virus (ie. internet express probs) had cleared and after running avg and symantec virus scans found no virus onboard. however the google toolbar had disappeared so i had to reinstall it. yesterday i started having problems with broken links, page unavailable and dns errors, some pages being slow to build, msn not automatically logging in and avg auto scan not starting when it should. i just upgraded to ie8 from 7 thinking that may help, but its still the same. i have a new laptop, bought in september, it has avg free edition on it, windows firewall is on, and im using vista. please help me sort these problems to get my pc back running efficiently. many thanks
