in the status bar for a few seconds, then makes a sound and returns to the very same page, prompting for the EULA acceptance and clicking start, which in return results in "Waiting…" and so on.
Open Internet Explorer and go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab and click on RESET INTERNET EXPLORER SETTING……RESET….takes about 30 seconds or so, ok your way out, close IE and restart it and see if that makes a difference.
Kaspersky is in the middle of an upgrade so that won't work

Same behavior as before.
Should I also let it reset the private data?
And if that fails as well, should I uninstall IE8, download the latest version from Microsoft and then reinstall it?
PandaSecurity at least came up with the yellow bar for installing the cab file with the ActiveX control, but IE8 didn't let me install it and instead still returned to the aforementioned "malfunctioning or malicious add-on" screen.
Scan still running; believes to be about 7 % done.
Looks like the majority of infections so far are found in the *.dbx files, meaning the Outlook Express mail folders. Let's hope that ESET has mastered the art of eliminating infected attachments from the dbx files without removing the whole dbx file containing thousands of messages.
Quick question: Would the scan be expedited if I downloaded and installed the eval version of ESET or would this make no difference in terms of performance? And/or would it help to speed things up if I turned the anti-virus component of NIS 2010 off while the ESET scan is running?
