So the problem is that I am redirected from either link to different sites or a site that states "server cannot be found". This also happens when I try to link to any sites from a google search.

Copy this link into the address bar or Right Click the link and select "Save As"

Delete the combofix you have now.

Download Combofix from any of the links below but rename it to ABCD.exe before saving it to your desktop.

Yeah, tried that, it gives me an error prompt just as the file is about to download. The virus knows specifically not to allow combofix to be downloaded…

Vista and Windows 7 users:
1. These tools MUST be run from the executable. (.exe) every time you run them
2. With Admin Rights (Right click, choose "Run as Administrator")

Step 1 : Safety precautions



Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.



Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
  • For version with the Installer:
    Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
  • For the zipped version:
    Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe



Download SysRestorePoint to your desktop and unzip it to it's own folder.
  • Double click SysRestorePoint.exe so that we can make a new system restore point.
  • A box will pop up after it has made a new point, usually after a few seconds. Close that window and exit the program.



Step 2 : The fix



Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, it wont take long.


Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.


Reboot your PC and see if the infection is gone.



The infection should hopefully be removed after these steps. Tell me how the machine is running and if you had any problems

Went through the steps but the virus knows not to allow me to download OTL. I've been using the internet via Firefox, is this allowing the virus to block websites? Otherwise, got any other cleanup downloads the virus might not know about?

Alright, so I was able to download OTL, run it, and it seems my computer is cleaned. The desktop screen is gone, there are no more pop-ups, and I was able to go to the Malware link you gave me. However, it seems the virus is still active because I cannot successfully run Malwarebytes. According to my task manager, the setup program is running but I see nothing. I have an old Malwarebytes on my computer and the same thing happens, its running but nothing happens there is no program or window to be seen. So somehow the virus is still overrunning the ability for me to run a scan but does seem weaker then before.
