I am reviving this thread because I have a similar issue except I cant seem to find restore disks for my system

i have the HP slimline s3713w and a Compaq Presario CQ60-211DX both down with similar issues both in need of system restore disks that I cannot find

in addition to those issues i also have the following issues

HP

i replaced the drive with a 1TB drive and cant seem to get past the disk boot failure message (i have gone to the bios to check boot priority and everything else) the diagnostic disk that i had for the initial set up works (dont know why i only burned that disk) when i attempted to run an xp disk it didnt read at all

Compaq

the computer will boot and then go to the improper shut down screen, if i choose to start windows it cycles and then goes back to the same screen. if i go to windows repair it goes through the motions and then tells me that it cannot fix the problem and then i try a restore point and it says i have non (which i know i set )

any ideas on this one?

It may need to be split yet again, so that the vista machine and the XP machine can be dealt with separately.
Hello Tomlin… Lets address the three main issues I see here as briefly as possible. First, if you need recovery discs, you need to order them from HP. Please call HP, give them the information they request and they will ship you out the recovery discs at a small charge. Second, if you just put in a new hard drive into the HP machine you will either have to reload everything form scratch (using the recovery discs) or you will have to "image" the data from the old drive. The new drive is blank, thus the "disk boot failure." You took out the heart and soul of your computer, the operating system which was stored on the old drive. Lastly, for the compaq, when the improper shutdown screen appears, choose to boot windows normally and then immediately start pressing the F8 key quickly and repeatedly. A second menu will appear. Choose to "disable automatic restart on system failure." Now, your comptuer will present you with a blue screen of death that gives more information about the problem. Please post the relevant information it gives minus the troubleshooting steps.
