Speaking of new HD's, I lucked out just before holidays and found an EIDE 500GB WD Caviar Blue w/16MB cache for $70. Installing it and copying over the data (Ghost) took a little over an hour. It appears the 16MB cache feature was key.
Much to my surprise (a pleasant one), it cut boot-up time on an XPSP3/Celeron2.4GHZ/1GB by more than half (5 minutes to just over 2 minutes). Defrag is faster, too. 'Not that the 500GB will ever be used, but the price was great, and there won't be any problems keeping it away from moisture.
At first I thought it was just a misprint and wanted to joke about it.
Now I see that it is a 20-pack.
I just bought quantity (3) three of
WDCaviar Black 3.5in 640GB SATA 3.0GB/s 32mb Cache, 7200 RPM
Model: WD6401AALS, OEM from Directron.com (accessed via Dell.com)
Price $65.99 each

I have not yet cloned and installed any of these drives.
Bottom-line, it looks like we both got pretty good deals.
