Open System in Control Panel. Click on Advanced. Under "Startup and Recovery" choose "Settings" then "Edit". Be sure to Save if you make any changes.
Also, if you open a Command prompt you can use the bootcfg command to manipulate boot.ini. Enter bootcfg /? for usage info.
Additionally, if you just want to get rid of invalid entries, do the following:
Start / Run / type msconfig and press enter
Click on the boot.ini tab then click the button that says "Check all boot paths".
That will get rid of any entries for non-existent XP installs.
One drawback to this procedure is that it does not recognize the Recovery Console, WinPE or BartPE when they are installed as choices on your boot drive, so you need to be careful you don't remove a valid boot.ini entry.
Since you have edited the information that you previously posted, I thought it best to inquire.
You previously mentioned that you had installed a second instance of Windows XP SP2 on your machine.
If you made that 2nd installation onto its own Partition, or onto a separate HD, you will have an easy time of removing it.
i.e., just delete the partition or format the separate HD.
However, if you made the mistake of installing the 2nd instance of XP SP2 onto the same partition that held your original operating system of XP SP2, then you may have a real nightmare trying to remove the 2nd instance without violating the 1st instance.
In such a situation, (both XP installations on the same partition, even if in separate Folders) you may be better off just leaving them as is, or completely formating and reinstalling a fresh single instance of the operating system.

Ztruker's instructions regarding boot.ini are excellent and will guide the machine to boot from the active XP instance, but will do nothing to remove the 2nd instance, nor reclaim any of the space consumed by the 2nd instance.
Best Regards
