I have Windows XP. I cannot open many programs, a program called "Advanced Virus Remover" installed itself on my computer. Task manager will not open. My desktop wallpaper says "Your System Is Infected.." I normally have spectacular antivirus, but I suppose it didn't work this time. I ran a scan on my C: drive, but it did not detect anything. Anyways, here is a Hijack this log.

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

I suggest you do this:

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Notes:
Do not restart the computer until MBAM has run.

If you can't get to add/remove programs, just move to the next parts.

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:
AdvancedVirusRemover

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a checkmark/tick in the box on the left side on these:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://toolbar.ask.c...c...amp;gc=1&q=
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,Default_Search_URL = http://toolbar.ask.c...c...amp;gc=1&q=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://toolbar.ask.c...c...p;gc=1&q=%s
R3 - URLSearchHook: DefaultSearchHook Class - {C94E154B-1459-4A47-966B-4B843BEFC7DB} - C:\Program Files\AskSearch\bin\DefaultSearch.dll
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon86.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupdate86.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\winupdate86.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Advanced Virus Remover] C:\Program Files\AdvancedVirusRemover\AVR.exe

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Delete these Files if listed:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon86.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winupdate86.exe
C:\Program Files\AdvancedVirusRemover\AVR.exe

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
    Posted Image
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Posted Image
  • Then click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Please don't attach the scans / logs, use "copy/paste". .
