Hi there,

My computer is infected with a virus that my anti virus appears unable to remove! It is getting worse and my computer is now running at a ridiculously low speed. Any help would be much appreciated! Here is my HiJack this log:

My name is Scotty. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research.
Please be patient.

Please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list… button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in a reply.


Quick question.

After LDTate cleaned you up previously, why did you not update to SP2? This could be the reason you are getting infected.

I didnt realise that I needed to update to SP2! Will do it this time however if that will help prevent this stupid infection! No problem. {u]Dont update until after you are clean though. I will post instructions for you. :thumbup:


If you already have Combofix, please delete that copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.

Please download Combofix from Bleeping Computer.

If you can't download it from there, please try these 2 alternative sites:

Forospyware
Geeks to Go

  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet, than disable your anti-virus and any real-time anti-spyware monitors that are running.
  • Click Start>Run copy/paste or type "%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall into the Run box and click OK.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
Note 2:Remember to re-enable your anti-virus and anti-spyware before reconnecting to the Internet.

Hi Scotty,

Done what was asked, however I thought I'd let you know that on the reboot of my PC a few programs and the internet started up again automatically on restart of the PC. I dont know if this matters…

Hi Scotty,

Did what you asked, unplugged my modem and therefore disconnecting me from the internet and ran the scan by dragging the document into combofix… Jst two things that need noting:

1) I was watching ComboFix work and it kept getting access denied messages multiple times!
2) Whenever my PC reboots at the end of the scan loads of programs start up and seem to affect its progress

Hi

When the machine reboots, Combo has done it's work and is just preparing the log, so there shouldnt be a problem. I do want to have a deeper look though, because I dont want to miss anything.

BLACKLIGHT
  • Please download F-Secure Blacklight (fsbl.exe) from here
  • Save into C:\ with a name of fsbl.exe
  • Go to Start > Run
  • Copy and paste the contents of the below codebox into the run box 
    C:\fsbl.exe /expert
  • Click OK
  • This will launch BlackLight
  • Select I accept the agreement
  • Click Next
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Click on Next>
  • Click Exit
  • A logfile will have been created in the C:\ drive
  • It will be named fsbl-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.log where xxxxxxxxxxxxxx is the date and time of the scan
  • Use notepad to open that log
  • Post the contents of that log as a reply to this topic together with a new HijackThis log.

Hi

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
  • Post that log back here with a new HijackThis log.

Hi

Now we upgrade.

Update Your Windows XP to SP2.

Go to Microsoft and update to SP2.
If that link doesn't work try this one.
http://www.update.microsoft.com

After doing so, set automatic updates on.


Delete the older versions of Java and download the newest.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.
  • Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
  • Click Start > Control Panel.
  • Click Add/Remove Programs.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (4th one down the list), which is JRE6u4, and click Yes at the page warning. Under "Platform" select Windows, then check the box to accept the Licence Agreement. Click Yes at the second page warning before downloading the Offline file.

When you have done those, post a new HijackThis log please.

Looking at that log, it looks like Ive failed to upgrade to SP2… I followed the instructions on screen and it ran multiple updates though! I will try again..

I've just had about 67 updates ran on my PC by windoms but it still won't upgrade me to SP2! I don't know if its been withdrawn from the server or what…
