Hi all.

Desktop PC which seems slow (But that may just be shortness of memory and a stupid number of IE Tool bars and BHOs). The big suspicion that all may not be well is the presence of "Error Fix" from "PC Utilites" which seems, according to a little research, to have gained a less than favourable reputation for delivering fake alerts.

As a start DDS, RootRepeal and HJT have been run. Logs are below, as appropriate and "attach" is - er - attached.

Thanks

John

Is there any chance that it isn't? (e.g. Did you purchase it with Windows already installed, second-hand?)

Hi Shortstuff. Sorry about the delay in getting back - real work kinda gets in the way. :wall: Ran the WGA tool and got the report below. I also asked the owner about the provenance of the windows install and, as far as they know, the Windows is genuine. The licence sticker certainly tallies up with he XXXXX'd out characters in the licence report from the MWA tool and there's a nice Windows instal CD in the wallet I was given, with holographic artwork plastered all over the disk. Here's the report: Diagnostic Report (1.9.0011.0): ----------------------------------------- WGA Data--> Validation Status: Cryptographic Errors Detected Validation Code: 0 Cached Validation Code: N/A Windows Product Key: *****-*****-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX Windows Product Key Hash: EEzxiCqaAZVVnDwn9S2kkAchU6M= Windows Product ID: 55277-OEM-2154977-19321 Windows Product ID Type: 3 Windows License Type: OEM System Builder Windows OS version: 5.1.2600.2.00010300.2.0.hom ID: {549C248E-11B5-418C-B936-A76243F59C96}(1) Is Admin: Yes TestCab: 0x0 WGA Version: Registered, 9.4.265.0 Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80096010 Product Name: N/A Architecture: N/A Build lab: N/A TTS Error: N/A Validation Diagnostic: 025D1FF3-230-1_E2AD56EA-765-d003_E2AD56EA-766-0_E2AD56EA-134-80004005_E2AD56EA-765-8009_E2AD56EA-766-2ee7_E2AD56EA-148-80004005_16E0B333-89-80004005_78155E4D-232-80004005 Resolution Status: N/A WgaER Data--> ThreatID(s): N/A Version: N/A WGA Notifications Data--> Cached Result: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 File Exists: Yes Version: 9.4.265.0 WgaTray.exe Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80004005 WgaLogon.dll Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x800b0100 OGA Notifications Data--> Cached Result: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Version: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 OGAExec.exe Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 OGAAddin.dll Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 OGA Data--> Office Status: 100 Genuine Microsoft Office XP Standard for Students and Teachers - 100 Genuine OGA Version: N/A, 0x80070002 Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002 Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1_E2AD56EA-765-d003_E2AD56EA-766-0_E2AD56EA-134-80004005_E2AD56EA-765-8009_E2AD56EA-766-2ee7_E2AD56EA-148-80004005_16E0B333-89-80004005_B4D0AA8B-1029-80004005 Browser Data--> Proxy settings: N/A User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Win32) Default Browser: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.exe Download signed ActiveX controls: Prompt Download unsigned ActiveX controls: Disabled Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins: Allowed Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe: Disabled Allow scripting of Internet Explorer Webbrowser control: Disabled Active scripting: Allowed Script ActiveX controls marked as safe for scripting: Allowed File Scan Data--> Other data--> Office Details: <GenuineResults><MachineData><UGUID>{549C248E-11B5-418C-B936-A76243F59C96}</UGUID><Version>1.9.0011.0</Version><OS>5.1.2600.2.00010300.2.0.hom</OS><Architecture>x32</Architecture><PKey>*****-*****-*****-*****-VVHQD</PKey><PID>55277-OEM-2154977-19321</PID><PIDType>3</PIDType><SID>S-1-5-21-2000478354-1364589140-725345543</SID><SYSTEM><Manufacturer>American Megatrends Inc.</Manufacturer><Model>K7S41GX</Model></SYSTEM><BIOS><Manufacturer>American Megatrends Inc.</Manufacturer><Version>P2.80</Version><SMBIOSVersion major="2" minor="3"/><Date>20061018000000.000000+000</Date></BIOS><HWID>6F4834D70184A06B</HWID><UserLCID>0809</UserLCID><SystemLCID>0409</SystemLCID><TimeZone>GMT Standard Time(GMT+00:00)</TimeZone><iJoin>0</iJoin><SBID><stat>3</stat><msppid></msppid><name></name><model></model></SBID><OEM/><GANotification><File Name="WgaTray.exe" Version="9.4.265.0"/><File Name="WgaLogon.dll" Version="9.4.265.0"/></GANotification></MachineData><Software><Office><Result>100</Result><Products><Product GUID="{913D0409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0050048383C9}"><LegitResult>100</LegitResult><Name>Microsoft Office XP Standard for Students and Teachers</Name><Ver>10</Ver><Val>549451FD5D1802A</Val><Hash>uqPIM3lbt7FOp9b2O6T320zxesY=</Hash><Pid>55866-719-8965975-17732</Pid><PidType>1</PidType></Product></Products><Applications><App Id="16" Version="10" Result="100"/><App Id="18" Version="10" Result="100"/><App Id="1A" Version="10" Result="100"/><App Id="1B" Version="10" Result="100"/></Applications></Office></Software></GenuineResults> Licensing Data--> N/A HWID Data--> N/A OEM Activation 1.0 Data--> BIOS string matches: no Marker string from BIOS: N/A Marker string from OEMBIOS.DAT: N/A, hr = 0x80004005 OEM Activation 2.0 Data--> N/A

Hi there,

No worries about the delay in responding, I understand completely.

I'm still a little suspicious about your machine I'm afraid. As we can see, MGADiag is also a little unhappy. The line in your HijackThis log that aroused my suspicion in the first place was this:
O20 - Winlogon Notify: Antiwpa - antiwpa.dll (file missing)
This is an indicator that measures are being taken to bypass Windows' validation. Do you have any idea how or why this is on your machine?

When you run MGADiag and click Continue, you should be presented with the option to "Resolve" your WGA issues, please try this and let me know how it goes.

We have a strict policy about not helping users with cracked/illegal software here at WTT, which is why I am being so cautious.
