Hello there, I have been having this problem for a while and I was hoping you could help me. A couple of weeks ago I had pop-ups boxes telling me about virus peices. I didn't think much about it, just did the virus scan and that was it. But then something was downloaded and now the computer cannot be run under normal mode because it freezes within 5 minutes of starting. So I have been using the computer under safe mode. I use webroot antivirus with antispyware and each time I run the program it shows this message:
Informational: AV engine detected Mal/Generic-A in file \\?\globalroot\systemroot\system32\gasfkyvsbbcklg.dll
Virus found: Mal/Generic-A
But it will not delete the virus. Below you will find my hjt log that was performed in safe mode. Thank you in advance for looking at my computer's information.

Wow, thank you for responding so quickly! I tried running the computer in normal mode and it still froze very quickly so all the logs were performed in safe mode. Also I don't know if this is important information but sometimes when I am on a search engine and I click to go to a site, it sends me to advertisements which I found strange. Anyways here is the logs requested.

Hi rosie8

I would like to look deeper in your logs, pleas this is important:

As I state in the text below, I would like for you to disable all real time protection programs such as windows defender, webroot spy sweeper, and any other maleware tools. including anti virus which I explain below too.

NEXT**

I'd like for you to run this next online scan to check for remnants or anything that might be hidden.
The below scan can take up to an hour or longer, please be patient.

*Note
It is recommended to disable onboard antivirus program and antispyware programs while performing scans so no conflicts and to speed up scan time.
Please don't go surfing while your resident protection is disabled!
Once scan is finished remember to re-enable resident antivirus protection along with whatever antispyware app you use.

Please do a scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner or from here

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

  • Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs.
  • The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My Computer.
  • This will start the program and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run. (At times it may appear to stall)
  • Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
    • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
    • Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report To obtain the report:
  • Click on: Save Report As
  • Next, in the Save as prompt, Save in area, select: Desktop
  • In the File name area, use KScan, or something similar In Save as type, click the drop arrow and select: Text file [*.txt]
  • Then, click: Save
  • Please post the Kaspersky Online Scanner Report in your reply.

(Note.. for Internet Explorer 7 users:
If at any time you have trouble with the "Accept" button of the license, click on the "Zoom" tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license has been accepted, reset to 100%
.)
Or use Firefox with IE-Tab plugin
https://addons.mozil...efox/addon/1419

In your next reply post:
  • Kaspersky log
  • New HJT log taken after the above scan has run

good luck and ask any questions if you like

Hello rosie8

Your log needs just a little more work.
NEXT

do a search:
in vista here is how:
cliock on start
in the search box type in gasfkyvsbbcklg.dll

when found delete all that show up.
let me know if found and deleted or found and can't delete.
also how is your pc behaving now?

Hey mschroe919, I tried writing that file name into the start box in both the safe mode and normal mode, nothing was found in either. Nothing was found even when I did an advanced search. The computer is still freezing in normal mode. As well, in both modes the computer can't read if my printer is attached anymore which I found disappointing.

Hi rosie8
This next step is important to do it exactly as it written.

Please read before doing it

Download Combofix from either of the links below. You must rename it before saving it.
Save it to your desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop**

  • If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
  • Tools->Options->Main tab
  • Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

Link 1
Link 2

During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

Posted Image

Posted Image
--------------------------------------------------------------------
  • It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
  • Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.

-----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on Combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.
    • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
    • Please post the "C:\Combo-Fix.txt" for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combo-fix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

Hey there. Sorry for the delayed reply, it has been a long week! So I have run combofix in, what a surprise, normal mode. There was no freezing and I am actually using normal mode now. I am very impressed. Thank you!! Of course if we could continue until you say it is all fixed I will be grateful. Thanks again for all your effort.

Hi rosie8

Your log and pc looks clean:
There is some things to be done here to help keep you sytem clean

FIRST :

click on start and type in run in the search then click enter
than follow this below:

Posted Image

NEXT:

I see that your log is clean. You did great cleaning it up,
pat yourself on the back.
As I said there would be more .....here
this is my canned all clean speech.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Note you may have some of theses programs allready, if so just a reminder to keep updated.

FIRST:
You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.
===================================================================
NEXT:
Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:

1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
2. Click once on the Security tab
3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
4. Click once on the Custom Level button.

1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
2. Change theDownload unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
3. Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.

Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
====================================================================

Use an Anti Virus Software
It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See these links for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:
If you don't have one here are some of the better AV products.

Symantec/Norton Antivirus: http://www.symantec.com/nav/nav_9xnt/
Kapersky AV: http://www.kaspersky...ne.html?info=25
Nod32 : http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm
Panda AV: http://www.pandasoftware.com/
McAfee Virusscan: http://us.mcafee.com...e.asp?pkgid=100
AVG Anti-Virus (Free version available) http://www.grisoft.com/

Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
============================================================
NEXT:

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.
If you don't have one see link below for a free firewall:

ZoneAlarm:
http://www.zonelabs.....jsp?lid=nav_za

Sunbelt Kerio:
http://www.sunbelt-s...e.com/Kerio.cfm

OutPost:
http://www.agnitum.c...ee/download.php
================================================================================

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.

This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software

Get the download and tutorial for Spybot S&D here:
http://www.bleepingc...tutorial43.html
=========================================================================

Install SpywareBlaster
SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:

http://www.javacools...areblaster.html
========================================================================

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
Happy surfing the net

I only ask one thing....please
Please post back and let us know what you think about our forum, we are all volunteers and would like a little smile.

Good luck and happy net surfing
