My machine was struck by a virus recently and after the removal process, most of the applications that were installed on my system cannot be located. Some of the programs seem to be working perfectly fine if I click their icon but I get errors when trying to access the rest of them. If I try to remove the applications I get errors stating that the files for the specific program cannot be found. I was trying to install an add-on for my browser and I couldn't do it because the add-on could not find the browser on my system , even though the browser was up and running in front of me. I have attached the error messages that I get when I attempt to access an application or when I try to remove the application from my system.
I have installed updated or new versions of the programs but it doesn't affect the older versions of the programs. In fact, I even ran a diagnostics to check if the program itself would locate conficting versions of itself but even it came out displaying that it didn't find any conflicting versions of the program on the system. I can see that the program files are there on the C: drive but they are not listed in the Add/Remove wizard. Some of them have desktop icons and others don't. Those that do, I don't have a problem except for a little lag in getting the program started. The others I need to find an alternate path , mostly using right-click if it listed in the drop-down menu of the click. All these files seem to be placed in their positions but I don't know why the system doesn't recognize them, making it difficult for me to use them or remove them. I tried de-fragging and successfully removed one of the programs. The rest of the programs still don't seem to be detected by the system.
The following list contains locations where you should be able to remove programs manually.

If I have missed your intention and it is other than that please correct me.

Uninstall Programs Manually

Just because Windows XP has the Add/Remove Programs feature it doesn't mean your application will appear in the list. Furthermore, even if it does appear, it's no guarantee that the uninstall feature will work. When you run across one of these situations the items listed below will help in getting rid of the application. Be aware that these steps may not remove everything associated with the application and can impact other applications on the computer. Have a backup or restore point and use caution.

*

Find the directory for the application and delete all the files in the directory. Delete the directory.
*

Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
*

Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
*

To remove the application entry from Add/Remove Programs (if present) open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
*

Some applications have Services attached to them. If this is the case, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es, locate and delete the service.
*

In Windows Explorer, navigate to the individual user settings and delete program references. Common places to check would be:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs and delete relevant entries.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete relevant entries.
C:\Documents and Settings\%YourUserID%\Start Menu\Programs and delete relevant entries.
[Do this for each User ID listed]
C:\Documents and Settings\%YourUserID%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete relevant entries.
[Do this for each User ID listed]

If no entries were found in the previous step and the application launches automatically, navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
and delete the entry.

Just a suggestion, give Revo Uninstaller a try. If it finds the programs, it attempts to run it's uninstaller, then it nukes whatever is left over and scans the registry for remnants as well, then allows you to delete the left overs. Only delete the high lighted ones.

If not, then jephree's list of locations is your only recourse.
