Hello All,

my computer is infected with a virus that is similar to other posts but i have tried everything to my knowledge and cant seem to remove it.

this virus identifies anti malware and antivirus programs and strips the user of the permissions to access the application. this makes it very hard to remove. most applications i can install and run once then they close immediately.

this happened with mbam, dds and rootrepeal which is why i couldnt attach logs.

It also has hijacked my web browser and redirects me a lot to other websites when i click any link on google.

i am running a winXP Pro SP3

the only two anti virus programs that run without closing are my existing

ESET NOD32 3.0.672.0

and also

IObit Security 360 free license

i have tried running SpyHunter, HijackThis, SuperAntiSpyware Pro, advanced system care, STOPzilla spybot: search and destroy, rootrepeal and dds, and Malwarebytes Anti Malware all unsuccesfully. i also cant seem to remove them. and cant find them on the Add/Remove Programs list.

I Have researched this a lot and cant figure it out.

two unknown registry entries i have noticed were from

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\NordBull

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Monopod

i have attached an OTL log and Extras from it, along with MGlogs.zip, and a Win32 Diag Log below.

Hi, welcome to the WTT Forums. My username is Raktor, and I would be glad to help you with your malware issues. I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean
  • Please do not run any scans or fixes without my direction.
  • Finally, stay with this topic until I give you the final 'All clear' post.

Please read through the instructions to familiarize yourself with what to expect when the tool runs.

Please download Combofix from either of the links below, and save it to your desktop.
You must rename it before saving it. Save it as explorer.exe.

[external image: Posted Image]

Link 1
Link 2

Note, the images above show how to rename to Combo-Fix.exe, but in this case we must rename to explorer.exe. This is vital.

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link:How to Disable your Security Programs
  • Double click on explorer.exe & follow the prompts. Close all browsers/windows first.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
first of all, thank you so much Raktor for helping me out.

so i downloaded combofix and re-named it, then disabled all anti virus programs in system tray and that i could find.
then i ran it and combofix told me that i had lavasoft ad-watch live installed and running and that i had to uninstall it. in the past i had installed this but it didnt work so i tried removing it and it wasnt in add/remove programs. i looked in program files and just found a folder labeled lavasoft, with nothing in it. i dont even know how combofix found it because i couldnt.

so im not sure but it told me to disable it and i dint know how so i closed out of combofix and now the setup file is named

ComboFix.exe

instead of what i named it before,

explorer.exe.

now that its renamed i dont know what to do?

sorry if i seem stupid, and thanks again for your support.

CODY
Delete that copy of Combofix, download a new one following the previous instructions making sure you rename it again. When it asks about Ad-Watch, just tell Combofix to continue on and ignore it - you should be fine.
ok so now when ii click on explorer .exe it starts up then tells me that "some of the files could not be created. please close all applications, reboot windows and run again." so i did, three times and all three it said the same thing.
Give this one a shot…

Please download numberCruncher to your desktop.
Double-click on numberCruncher.com to run the fix.
A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
Post the contents of log.txt (Should be created where you ran the file)
Ok, that one worked just great. thats awesome that you created it.

so i will post it now and thanks.
