Hi,

My Computer is acting weird. When I open IE8 sometimes it doesn't open. When I try to go on a site avrfreaks.com to log in, it says cookies must be allowed and I changed my privacy option to allow all cookies. Also it randomly closes and won't open again after that. I would have to restart or log out and log back in to get IE8 working again. It worked fine before, so I think it has to be something affecting it.

I ran ATF cleaner and then malwarebytes and then hijackthis, here are the logs.

Oh, I have windows XP, using ESET NOD32 antivirus, and windows firewall. NOD has several files in quarantine.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Logs look fine. No need to quote any reports , just copy and paste them in.

Try upgrading Internet Explorer to IE 8, your Operating System is out of date as well and this could let some threats into your computer.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details…;displaylang=en
Go here to download and install IE8, If you cant stay online for the upgrade then download it to another computer, burn it to disk or thumb drive, transfer it to your computer and install it.

When your done post a new HJT log please
Hi ken545, Sorry for late reply, but I tried to installing IE8 and I keep getting an error (Error 2 in pictures) and when I try to manually do it I get a next error(error 1). So I took 2 screen shots and I attached them. Also whenever I try to listen to anything online, like live radio. I have to press ctrl+alt+del and end msfeed process in order for the music to start playing. How else can I update windows? Thanks
Hi Ken,

Okay I managed to get udpated to SP3 and IE8, but for some reason when ever I go to Avrfreaks.com and try to log in it tells me Cookies needs to be enabled. I tried changing my privacy settings so that it accepted all cookies and that still didn't help.

Heres my Hijackthis as requested:

Ask Toolbar <– This is running as a service using system resources, if you don't use it, uninstall it via add remove programs

What I would like to do is double check for any malicious programs.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
    [external image: Posted Image]
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Post the report and also a new HJT log please

Not looking at anything out of the ordinary, your problem does not appear to be malware related.

Run this cleaner to clean out all the temp files and such not needed garbage

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.

  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

Keep in mind if you install some of these programs. Only ONE Anti Virus and only ONE Firewall is recommended, more is overkill and can cause you problems. You can install all the Spyware programs I have listed without any problems. If you install Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard, they will conflict with the TeaTimer in Spybot , you can still install Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer .

Here are some free programs to install, all free and highly regarded by the fine people in the Malware Removal Community
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis. If you install Spyware Blaster ( Recommended ) then do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot Search and Destroy.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed. No scan to run, just update about once a week and enable all protection.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts, again, no scan to run, just install it and let it do its thing.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 6000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 3 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
