Hi Guys, I tried malaware bytes the freeware version Sunday. I saw it on my post to day it works great and updated it. It picked up 3 other infections including the win 32 fraudload. It was under a different name fake something or other. I new it was the win 32 by the reg entry same as the one spybot picked up. It quarantined it and deleted them. When I went back to spybot the scan came up clean. It did not delete any files that I know of . Is this ok or should I hunt down a file that spybot said to delete also. Could you also look at me log when you get a chance and let me know if is ok? Thanks again for your help, the rock

Everything seems to be ok. I will leave it up to you about doing any additional checking. What were you considering running next? Thanks again Ken, the rock
Good Morning,

Lets run a free online virus scanner just as a doublecheck

Please run this free online virus scanner from ESET
  • Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is ticked, and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic
Hi Ken, Thanks for you continuing help . I am glad you told me to run the scan . HC:\ProgramData\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\DNSFlushcws1.zip Win32/Bagle.gen.zip worm cleaned by deleting - quarantined C:\ProgramData\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\SmitfraudC.zip Win32/Bagle.gen.zip worm cleaned by deleting - quarantined ere is the results. This worm was not picked up my mcaffee virus scan or malabytes. Should I be running this scan also in the future. Is there anything else I need to run or am I clean now.
Hi,

Those where just backups of what Spybot removed, your in good shape now.

  • How did I get infected in the first place ?
Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.
  • Tutorial for System Restore <– Do this first to prevent yourself from being reinfected.
  • WhattheTech
  • Grinler BleepingComputer
  • GeeksTo Go
  • Dslreports

Keep in mind if you install some of these programs. Only ONE Anti Virus and only ONE Firewall is recommended, more is overkill and can cause you problems. You can install all the Spyware programs I have listed without any problems. If you install Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard, they will conflict with the TeaTimer in Spybot , you can still install Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer .

Here are some free programs to install, all free and highly regarded by the fine people in the Malware Removal Community
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis. If you install Spyware Blaster ( Recommended ) then do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot Search and Destroy.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed. No scan to run, just update about once a week and enable all protection.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts, again, no scan to run, just install it and let it do its thing.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 6000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 3 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.

Safe Surfn
Ken
Hi Ken, Thanks again for all your help. I did checkout your website and clicked on all the links. I did learn more about security than I knew before. I was not carefull with my freeware downloads just ran virus scan not spyware scan. Since Spybot and Adaware did not detect and remove some of my infections I removed them. I guess I will reinstall spybot unless you prefer spyblaster. As far as my total protection I have with Mcafee which did not pickup these infections I was thinking of switching to Norton. Is there a freeware total protection you can recommend. If not can I get by with Avg or Avast and the windows tools and the above spyware. Almost forgot I did change my password which I had for along time. The micr osoft password checker meter said it was best . When I went back to check it the meter said weak. Is this checker accurate. I guess I will have to go back and change it again. Sorry for the long reply. Thanks again. the rock
Hi,

It looks like you may have had Norton at one time, its still running as a service. It doesent matter which AV program you keep, what one finds another may not. Its important that you only have one , more is overkill and will hamper performance.

You can remove this with HJT and then go to your Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and see if you still have the option of uninstalling it.
O23 - Service: Symantec Lic NetConnect service (CLTNetCnService) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSvcHst.exe (file missing)

If you cant uninstall it or if there is not option to do so you can run this tool that will remove all of Symantec Products
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen…005033108162039

You can reinstall Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer if you install SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard as they do the same thing and will conflict.

Just keep playing with the password checker until you get one that is strong…write it down so you dont forget it

After you remove Symantec, post a new HJT log and lets make sure its gone

Thanks again Ken. I have learned something new again. If you have the time I have a question. I always check services or apps running I did not see this. It was not in my uninstall list. I tried deleting it a few times from HJT it did not work .When I used the removal tool and checked the log it looks like it is gone. Was this left over files or what?
Yes, your uninstall of Norton did not go well and left some entries behind, not really your fault , this happens sometimes, but the important thing is its gone now and not causing you problems Take Care, Ken :)
