Right...been through some of the posts here in hope of getting any idea how to rid me of this. Now I realize it needs some more refined work...
The symptoms are just like the other folks reported earlier and none of my programs gets this thing erased....Windows defender, Nod 32 or adaware...(been doing scans in safe mode too)

Hi ZX9R and welcome to the forums.

My name is Dave. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can sometimes take a while to research so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • I recommend you make a backup of any data that you have created, such as documents, pictures, music, ect... before we begin the fix.

Please download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Double click on SDFix.exe. It should automatically extract a folder called SDFix to your system drive (usually C:\). Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the SDFix folder and double click on RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y and press Enter to begin the script.
  • It will start cleaning your PC and then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any key to restart the PC.
  • Your system will take longer than normal to restart as the fixtool will be removing files.
  • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished.
  • Press any key to end the script and to load your desktop icons.
  • A text file should automatically open, so please copy the contents and post them here. We also need you to post a new HijackThis log

Argg...just realized when I double checked your log, SDFix will not run on Vista. We need to change the game plan.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Hi again...! I downloaded the Smitfraudfix-thingy late last night (been on a buisness trip for 3 days) - and decided to have a go at it today. ...when I shut down my computer yesterday, Vista wanted to install some upgrades and - lo and behold - when I started the computer this morning the update had found and removed "TrojanDownloader:Win32/Zlob.IC". Now I no longer get the warning messages in Internet Explorer and everything seems to be back to normal... :) Now...do you still want me to run the SmitfraudFix.exe? When I read some of the posts here I understand that it is always a good thing to check - and re-check the computer becsude everything isn´t always "clean" even though it appears to be... What do you think?

That is great, please post a fresh HijackThis log and we can see if there is anything that still needs to be dealt with.

Hi, Still see a couple signs of Smitfraud. I would advise you go back to my post #4 and at least run the check for Smitfraud. If nothing found then we can just use HJT to clean up the leftover entries.

Let's run one more scan, and update Java first.

Update Java Runtime:

You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 6.
  • Go to the Sun Java Website
  • Click on the download button next to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6
  • Check the circle next to I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement.
  • Click on the link Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save the downloaded file to your hard disk.
  • Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
  • Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 2 Runtime Environment, JRE or JSE)
  • Reboot your computer
  • Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Java if present
  • Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Reboot your computer

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.

Also post a new Hijackthis log and let me know how it's running.

Ok...so I have update Java and are about to run the Kapersky scan... Just a thought - will this not interfer with my already existing anti-virus solution NOD32 which is installed on my computer...?

No, this version of Kaspersky is only for one time scans, it does not give any real time protection. You should temporarily disable NOD32 while Kaspersky is running.
