Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and clickRemove Selected. <– very important
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.
Also, please advise how your computer is running now and if there are any outstanding issues
Ok the scan completed, it found 8 infected files. AdwaredoubleD, Trojan.fakeAlert, and RoguePersonal.ad.
I removed the selected files, now do you want me to try and boot up in normal mode and see how the computer runs?
Yeah it is faster that it was before but still seems a bit slow. Also there is a home page that is routed to "gamingharbor.com" I never had this home page it just automatically linked my home page to that address. I also am running Uniblue Registry booster and Threat fire. Both of those programs are running in the background im not sure if there malicious or ok to run. I will probably end up deleting every firewall programs and let you tell me which better programs to download. Anyways what would you like me to do now. Is there still some more maintenance or things you want to check on. I would also like to add that if you know a program that updates drivers automatically, that would be helpful. I have had problems with conflicting or corrupted drivers before and i still don't think this computer has all the appropriate drivers. Another tool i would like to use is something to test hardware in your pc to see if there are any errors, i know they have such programs but not sure where to find them. Anyways i will await further instructions of what to do. Thanks for all this help, i appreciate it!
Using Internet Explorer or Firefox, visit Kaspersky On-line Scanner
1. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions. 2. To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
Close any open programs
Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
3. Click Run at the Security prompt.
The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
Please be patient as this can take quite a long time to download.
Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
Click View scan report at the bottom.

Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply
The scan finished, it said there was no maleware found. I saved the report anyways and attached it to this message.
Is there anything else you would like to have me do just to make sure all the malware is completely off my machine?

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer against malware infections.
It is good security practice to change your passwords to all your online accounts on a fairly regular basis, this is especially true after an infection. Refer to this Microsoft article
Strong passwords: How to create and use them
Then consider a password keeper, to keep all your passwords safe.
Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at :
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
SpywareBlaster protects against bad ActiveX, it immunizes your PC against them.
SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts. Make sure you are only running one real-time anti-spyware protection program ( eg : TeaTimer, Windows Defender ) or there will be a conflict.
Make Internet Explorer more secure
Click Start > Run
Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
Click on the Security tab
Click Reset all zones to default level
Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
ATF Cleaner - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.
WOT, Web of Trust, warns you about risky websites that try to scam visitors, deliver malware or send spam. Protect your computer against online threats by using WOT as your front-line layer of protection when browsing or searching in unfamiliar territory. WOT's color-coded icons show you ratings for 21 million websites, helping you avoid the dangerous sites:
Green to go
Yellow for caution
Red to stop
WOT has an addon available for both Firefox and IE
For Firefox, I highly recommend this add-on to keep your PC even more secure.
NoScript - for blocking ads and other potential website attacks
Keep a backup of your important files - Now, more than ever, it's especially important to protect your digital files and memories. This article is full of good information on alternatives for home backup solutions.
ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed. The standard registry backup options that come with Windows back up most of the registry but not all of it. ERUNT however creates a complete backup set, including the Security hive and user related sections. ERUNT is easy to use and since it creates a full backup, there are no options or choices other than to select the location of the backup files. The backup set includes a small executable that will launch the registry restore if needed.
In light of your recent issue, I'm sure you'd like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles: Think Prevention. PC Safety and Security–What Do I Need?.
**Be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them.
Thank you for your patience, and performing all of the procedures requested.
Please respond one last time so we can consider the thread resolved and close it, thank-you.
Hi thanks for all the help. I do have some questions though if you have time.
First of all. Firefox seems damaged as well some other programs are still non responsive. Is there a way to scan all the files on my pc and find out which ones damaged so i can re download them and install them.
2nd. Would you happened to know a tool that can update all my computer drivers so im up to date with the most current drivers for all my hardware. That is very important. Do you know a tool that will show all my computer detailed information so i can then look up each hardware and download the appropriate drivers for my computer.
3rd. Would you know any tool that tests hardware malfunctions in the computer. I just want to make sure my hardware is running ok. This computer is kind of old and im running SP3 windows xp update on AMD athlon 64 bit edition 3000+. Would that be the right service pack to run or should i back it down to like sp1 so it runs faster. It does have 2 gigs of ram though.
Also i would like to add that when i restart my pc i get an error message that pops up and says combo fix was not installed correctly and i cant get rid of the error message now. It just pops up every time i log on to my regular account.
Hopefully you can help me resolve these issues, thanks!
run their test - don't purchase the products…if there is anything of great concern..post a topic in our hardware forum and advise the techs
Would that be the right service pack to run or should i back it down to like sp1 so it runs faster
Yes that is the correct service pack, do not back it down at all - too many security vulnerabilities in the old service packs and SP1 is no longer supported by MS
Combofix error message.
did you follow the instructions to uninstall combofix?
Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the ..X and the /U, it needs to be there.
If that didn't work…navigate (windows key + E0 to the C:\Combofix folder and delete it.(right click > delete)
Hi i have a few things to go over with.
I tried using the spyware blaster and spy guard. Both programs are not working for some reason. I rebooted back into regular mode because i thought that maybe it was safe mode, but there still not working. I receive the following error from Spyblaster when i try to launch it.
"Error: Access violation at 0x275AB989 (tried to read from 0x00040440), program is terminated"
When i try to run the other program spy guard, it just goes non responsive on me.
I also tried the online scanner to test the computer for hard ware. The browser once again goes none responsive and shuts down. I tried downloading the plugin that they said would work for firefox. I tried it again, it went through all the tests but still shut down before the results were shown. Could that be a bad firefox program?
I also to say that i have 3 accounts on this machine. I was using a administrator account that only shows up if you go into safe mode. I was using that to download and diagnose my machine with all the software and virus protection programs you requested. But i want to make sure that all 3 accounts are protected at the same time, is there any way to do this. I installed a program on the administrator account, but then when i switched users, it wasn't there so im not sure if all accounts are being protected.
I also tried the program to update all my drivers. I cant seem to do any updates as well. Its almost like something is not giving me rights to perform these tasks. I need to be able to have full administrative access to my computer. One particular update was adobe reader for example, it said i didn't have administrator excess or rights to download that update. I checked my user account files and all the accounts are set to administrator account type so im really not sure what is going on there.
As for the combo fix thing. That is finally resolved. I logged into this account and i didn't see the pop up message again but there is still some issues i need resolved. Thanks
I think your issues are probably due to permissions, but I'm not the best person to ask, I just rip out malware. Plus I don't use Vista myself (holding out for Win7 )
So the best thing you can do is make a new thread in the WINDOWS support forum and ask the expert tech gurus there…
Ok lastly i have one more question. What sort of antivirus or firewall protection programs would you reccomend cause right now i have none. I deleted all the ones i had on my pc cause they were curropted and i didnt wana take the chance of them being malicious programs. So which ones would you reccomend that i download and install that are free. I have tried avg and avast and i dont like them that much. I want a very strong fire wall protection so i dont have these problems in the future.
