Hi my name is jeff matthews. I used spybot search and destroy and avast antivirus to try and get rid of this hyjacker and male ware that is named "coolwebsearch". SPybot came up with a few adaware and spyware and deleted them but i could not get rid of the hyjacker or the male ware. I saved my log file from hijack this. SO you can look it over and come to a conclusion of what is goig on. My computer is experienced changes in host files, urls, and music playing in the back ground as well as additional registery files were changed. I am having problems installing programs and playing games. My computer is also having shut downs.

Here is my log file. I hope you can figure out how to fix this problem because i do not want all my files deleted, thank you! I will wait for a reply back from you.

Hi and Welcome,

NOTE:
  • Malware removal is NOT instantaneous, most infections require several courses of action to completely eradicate.
  • Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean
  • Kindly follow my instructions in the order posted.
  • Please DO NOT run any scans or fix items without my direction.

Please do the following:

STEP #1

Please download DDS from either of these links

LINK 1
LINK 2

and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.pif to run the tool.
  • When done, two DDS.txt's will open.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————
Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

DDS.txt
Attach.txt.

STEP #2

[external image: Posted Image]
Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here or here.
  • Extract the contents of the zipped file to desktop.
  • Double click GMER.exe. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent .
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan…click on NO.

    [external image: Posted Image]
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following …
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in your next reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOKIT" entries
Hi, thanks for the fast reply. I did just what you told me to do exactly. Should i be doing all this on safe mode? Because my pc is running in safe mode right now. My computer is so messed up that i cant run it in normal mode right now, it will just crash and freeze and have lots of non responsive programs. I was running a few programs before such as spybot, avast antivirus and pc tools fire wall plus that i downloaded. Right now since im in safe mode there is none of those processes running right now. Here is all my log files that you requested. I will attach each one to this message.
Oh i also wanted to add that in "Gmer" Log "show all" was already unchecked. I am understanding that this has to be unchecked and not checked right? Just want to make sure im doing everything right.
Hi,

yes, it's fine to run these scans in safe mode.

Please do the following:

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now
I am sorry for the multiple posts i forgot one important thing. How do you disable script blocking. I did all the steps required but im not sure if script blocking is disabled or not.
Ok im going to try all these next steps you have and i will get back to you and post what ever information you request.
Hi I ran the combo fix install and this is the message that popped up.

CAUTION

http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/combofix.exe
Combo fix.exe may be downloaded from any of the above sites. If you have downloaded from some other sites there is a likely chance that it has been tainted. For peice of mind i suggest that you delete the current copy and get a fresh one."

Should i just press ok or download another copy?
I clicked ok, it told me to download the recovery consol. I started downloading then this message popped up.

"Boot Partition can not be enumerated correctly"
Ok i scanned it. It finished, the screen went completely black. I had to restart my computer back into safe mode with networking. When i restarted the pc it came up with a message that the combo fix did not install the Microsoft windows recovery console I did save my log file from combo fix. I will post it now. But since it didn't install something went wrong and im not sure what it is. Anyways here is my log file.
