I have on old Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop with Windows NT installed. I decided to reformat it and install Ubuntu, but upon firing up the machine, it will not boot up. It just hangs… Hitting F8 brings up a notice telling me to "press spacebar to load last known good configuration". However, pressing the spacebar has no effect. Neither does hitting any other key or using the touchpad. The machine is just dead. I cannot get to any command prompt, so I can't enter any commands. Attempting to install.booting with the Ubuntu installation CD results in a screen of errors ending in: udevd-event[1897]: 'edd_id __export /dev/block/8:0' abnormal exit Segmentation fault The machine does not respend to any keypresses, touchpad motions or anything else after that. Any suggestions?
