Trojan-keylogger.WIN32.Agent has apparently infected the family computer & I'm not sure how it happened. Looks like it's only been on here since yesterday but about every 5 minutes I get a phony 'windows security alert' wanting me to 'enable protection'. I have McAfee & ran a scan last night but it turned up nothing, and the phony alert continues to pop up. I have Avast on my laptop (which is currently in the shop) so i have installed it here on the desktop but so far it hasn't found the virus either. I'm including a HijackThis log and I hope someone here can help me! … And yes I realize there's a LOT of programs on here, but others in the family are using them so not much I can do about it.

I installed and ran malwarebytes on my computer and it 'detected' the defender32.exe which was the root of the virus along with quite a few registry changes and registry data changes. At the same time that I was looking over what Malwarebytes had found Avast! finally decided that it could ALSO 'detect' the defender32.exe program. I had malwarebytes delete the defender32.exe program along with the registry changes and restarted the computer. HOPEFULLY this has solved my problem… but I have included a new HijackThis report if someone would please look it over and tell me if everything looks ok again.

Thanks in advance!!!!!

Hi,

First of all, I wouldn't keep both Avast! and McAfee on there at the same time, as they can conflict with each other and slow your system down.

Your log doesn't look too bad, but let's have a closer look just to make sure. The following are both non-invasive scans.

Please download DDS and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done two logs should open:
  • DDS.txt
  • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt report in your next reply
  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scrolling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and then click UPLOAD.

Download the GMER Rootkit Scanner. Unzip it to your Desktop.

Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.

Right-click gmer.exe and select Run As Administrator. The program will begin to run.

**Caution**
These types of scans can produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any
"<— ROOKIT" entries unless advised!

If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan.
  • Click NO
  • In the right panel, you will see a bunch of boxes that have been checked … leave everything checked and ensure the Show all box is un-checked.
  • Now click the Scan button.
Once the scan is complete, you may receive another notice about rootkit activity.
  • Click OK.
  • GMER will produce a log. Click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "GMER.txt"
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.
Post the contents of GMER.txt in your next reply.
