Hello folks,
I used to fly all the time on the VATSIM network. I used Squawkbox 4 and UPnP was disabled on my Lynksis WRT54G router. My sister came to visit with her family and laptop. She tried to connect to the network but couldn't so the router had to be reset and UPnP is enabled with the reset. I know also use a laptop so the main cpu, and laptop. my question is…… Does UpnP do this or can I disable it and not worry about losing the connection.
thanks!

I would disable it as it is a definite security exposure: UPnP and routers

Ok so if I do, my laptop can connect to the network right?

Yes, your laptop uses DHCP to request an IP address from your router, UPnP doesn't enter into this at all.
I owe you a big Thank You though. Your post pointed me in the right direction for a problem I had just posted here:

I could not figure out how some port forwarding was setup in my router without me doing it, as the router has a good password on it. UPnP was the culprit I'm sure, which I just turned off. My laptop still connects just fine to my router.
