Hi connor, lets get a more in depth look at the system with a startuplist.
To generate a startuplist report:
Run HijackThis, go to config>misc tools
Under the startuplist button are two boxes
[]List also minor sections (full)
[]List empty sections (complete)
Put a check mark in both those boxes, press the startuplist button
Post the entire log that is generated as a reply to this thread.

i tried to do that but when it finishes making the list a big banner takes up my whole screen that says "BEst of the Web!" and the only way to exit it is to go to the task manager and end the Internet Explorer. How can i get around the banner interuption?

Do you have any other browsers installed? Netscape or Mozilla for instance? Use one of them if you do.

the banner pops up after i click the create startup list button. its right after i click the button in HJT. Im not evenon the internet when it pops up.

Check mark "display the contents of system folders"
Select "Show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
Click the [ok] button.
Find this file, copy it zip it and send it to me here

kay i sent the notepad.exe to you and i tried to send you my sys.reg but hotmail said it had a virus and wouldnt send it.

Thats ok, rename it sys.doc, open it with wordpad and then paste the contents as a reply here. The notepad.exe is definitly a problem, I'll get back to you as soon as I see the contents of sys.reg, post a fresh HijackThis log also.

Shut down all other programs first, then do the following.
Place a check mark in HijackThis next to each of the following.
Click "fix checked."
Make sure you don't miss any of them After you fix them, scan again and make sure none of them are still there.

Delete the following

Run CWShredder

Copy the contents of the CODE box to a notepad document, save it as "fix.REG" as type "all files" to your desktop. Double click to run it and say ok to add it to the registry.
Finally, go here and download IEFix.reg, save it to your desktop, double click to run it and say ok to add it to the registry.

Finally, go here and download IEFix.reg, save it to your desktop, double click to run it and say ok to add it to the registry.

i did the safe mode deletions and pasted the code in notepad. but when i clicked onit said it couldnt add it to the registy because "The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary files from within the registry editor." By the way I'm using netscape to post this.
