This i–search.com/ie/ takes up my whole screen and wont let me exit. help me kill it. please. thank you.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You need to put HiJackThis into its own folder C:\HJT for example so that it will make backups and not clutter your desk top.


Please downlaod and run Cwshredder. Make sure that you close all browser windows except Cwshredder then choose fix.

REBOOT

Now let's see what we can do with it. First, open your Control Panel and click on the "Add/Remove programs" icon. If there are any programs you DO NOT BOTH RECOGNIZE AND WANT, DELETE THEM! (DO NOT delete your Windows and Internet Explorer updates, which are listed with a "Q" and a bunch of numbers.) Then reboot your computer.

Now, download and run Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware; they are the standard programs for finding and cleaning crapware off your system, and can also help prevent its downloading and installation in some cases. Links to both of these programs can be found in my signature at the bottom.

Download and install these programs in their own PERMANENT folders if you don't already have them. If you do have them, make sure they are UPDATED AND CONFIGURED AS DESCRIBED.

To run Spybot S&D:

After installing first press "Online", click on "Search for Updates", then select all updates. Next, press "Download Updates." Beside the download button is a little down-pointed arrow, which gives you a choice of several download sites; select one of the servers listed (usually it's best to choose the site nearest you). If that site doesn't work or you get an error message, try a different server.

When the updates are finished, close your browser and ALL WINDOWS EXCEPT THE ONE SPYBOT IS RUNNING IN, then press 'Check for Problems'; THE SCAN WILL TAKE SEVERAL MINUTES. Have SpyBot remove all it finds THAT ARE MARKED IN RED. When it's finished, reboot your system.

Then, Run ADAWARE:

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate" button at the lower right of the panel. The current ref file should read at least 01R310 23.05.2004 or a higher number/later date. Updates for this program come out frequently to keep up with new malware. THIS IS CRITICAL; updating is as important as installing these programs.

Then ……..

Make sure the following settings are made and on ——-"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

then……

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options ON: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

then………

go to settings(the gear icon on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and click "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ………..then…….."Cleaning engine" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then…… click "proceed" to save your settings.

To scan, click NEXT. This scan will also take several minutes.

When the scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press "next" and then say yes to the prompt, "do you want to remove all these entries?" Reboot again.

After you have run them, run HijackThis

Limewire is considered spyware. If you want to remove it have HJt fix this line

i did that, but once i restarted spyware guard told me i–searc.com/ie/ took over again. heres my log.

Good Job :thumbup: ;) Log looks clean. At this point I would suggest that you downlodd Spyblaster & IESPYAD. They will add 1000's os sites to your restriced zone and take very little resources. They can be found in my signature below. I also have a link to a free firewall there which is never a bad thing. A tutorial on how to harden your IE settings is also there. Keep everything up to date and scan weekly and hopefully that should take care of things. I can only recommned these steps as it is your system.

We have a few more steps to do here. I will walk you through the start and I will ask an expert to keep an eye on us ;) Never hurts to have big brother watching :blink:


Uninstall this progam as it is adware.

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint

Then you need to run an onone virus scan virus scan

Then reboot and post a new log. It will still take a few steps to get rid of the
i-search but we are getting closer.

Ok lets go after the i search tool bar now. In the link below are removal tools to eliminate it. Follow the directions. If the removal tool does not work let me know and we will go after it manullay, a little more diffucult be still we can get it.

Please note run the removal tools not the merge tool which is first.
