hey all, I am having some trouble with my laptop. It is a Lenovo R400 model, running on Windows XP. The problem with my laptop started happening this Monday.

Now the computer is slower than usual. When i connect on some programs, they simply wouldn't open and the computer freezes. So I have to shut down the computer using the power button.

Another thing is that sometimes my windows will stop loading at the Windows XP welcome screen (the blue screen) and just stuck there. So that I have to shut it down manually.

I have three drives on my computer. C, D& E drive. When I click on D & E drives, i get the message I cannot access it and it has to do with msvcrt.dll.

The last thing I noticed is that i got this message from the IT system at my university while I was on the internet.

Automated monitors have detected your system conducting DNS queries to
off-site servers located in Ukraine which have been implicated in a
variety of trojan compromises. It is highly unusual for systems other than
campus DNS servers to do any off site DNS queries. Your system is very
likely compromised, regardless of the operating system that it's running.

There are several methods that this trojan could have been acquired. A more
common method involves web sites where the user is required to download
a 'DirectVideo' or 'FreeVideo' player or browser plugin to view content.
The player/plugin is in fact a Trojan.

Not sure what the message above is, I know it is not good.

I tried to reinstall Windows XP following Option D as directed at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=144349, but my computer is not letting me. I get the message that I don't have a valid partition drive. Which i know is not true.

Thanks for all help in advance. I do not care about what I currently have on my system. If it is necessary, willing to do clean Windows XP reinstall

One of the lines in your HJT log indicates a backdoor infection is, or has been, present on the system, so i'd consider the OS hosed and reformat and reinstall. If you use the PC for internet banking or shopping you need to be aware of the possibility of ID theft, as I cannot say if there has been anything monitoring your activities for passwords/card details/login details etc…

The best advice I can give is to start a fresh thread here and explain that your system needs some R&R and they should be able to walk your through it - it's their area of expertise after all.
