:pullhair: Ok, I'll try to be as specific as possible. I'm running XP Home sp2. This all started happening around the beginning of last week. I want to be short and to the point so I'll just tell you what's happening. A: my google results are being redirected. B: I cannot run regedit from any location (this is probably what pisses me off the most); However, I can run the task manager and msconfig. C: I cannot update anything! I get a message that the connection was lost or interupted and that I should check my internet connection (well duh) the connection is OK. I have been racking my brain on this for a few days now. I have been all over the forums and the problem is that everyone seems to have a different reason, theory, idea or fix for these symptoms. What I have done so far: Software that I have Ran: Avg free 7.5, Adaware Personal Aniversary ed., Spybot S&S, Malwarebytes, and Registry Mechanic. I did full scans in both safe mode and regular mode, while scanning with one I would disable all others so there would be no conflict. I removed, deleted or quaranteened all threats found by these programs. I even went as far as rescanning with each program, with all showing 0 threats. However, the problems still remain. Some reasons I have heard for the problems : a: DNS virus (disabled the DNS client service. NO LUCK) b: iexplore.exe virus(is showing in task manager when IE is not active) c: smss.exe virus (seems ok in task manager, but did find it in other folders than C:\windows\system32). d) backdoor intrusion. I'm leaning toward it being one entity causing all three problems, just because it would seem to be unlikely that I would get hit by a bunch of different things all at once, but who knows? Well hopefully someone in here!! I am fed up and need a solution to this problem. Please help!!!!!!!!!! P.S. I'm sure there are a lot of people on here who truly wish to help and I do appreciate that; Howerever I am Far past the point of good tips, maybe you could try thises, you should try this softwares, and helpful theories. So Please, if you don't have the DEFINITIVE SOLUTION for the problem that I am experiencing then I am asking that you NOT reply to this thread. Hate to sound like a dick, but this thing is just frustrating the s%*t out of me! Thank You In Advanced G.
Hi Tanman767

:welcome:

I suggest you read this:http://forums.whatthetech.com/Welcome_New_…ers_t34502.html , and when ready, post here: HijackThis™ Logs and Infections Removal

Copy / Paste the meat of the info you provided here when posting in the malware removal forum. And please be patient.
I know it is frustrating when ones machine is acting up, but this is a busy forum and all helpers are volunteers.

Word of advice is to not make double-post and / or answering to your own post before a malware fighter have responded.

Hope you get it solved. Good luck.

Regards

I suspect you've just turned off 99% of the folks who would want to help you here. If there was a definitive solution you would most likely have already found it. Your problem, like most that are posted here, requires investigation and trial and error to find a fix.

I wish you well and hope the folks in the malware forum can help you.
 Sorry if I offended anyone. Just that I've been doing the trial and error thing for about a week now with no results. Just very frustrated (mostly at myself for letting this thing kick my ass!) I have copied this post to the malware removal for as advised above. Replies to this post are no longer required. Thanks G.
Perhaps if you had posted here first with your issues (there are several very experienced IT technicians online at WTT) you would have saved yourself all that angst.

I agree with Ztruker, your post certainly sent me the other way with a definite message not to reply with assistance.

EXCEPT to add to Abydos's post that if you have not had a reply in 5 days, post a gentle reminder here

A Malware volunteer may pick up your post in the HJT forum anytime soon. I guess you know we are all volunteers here.

Good luck,

kind regards,
Hi again :wavey:

With posting the meat, I meant posting the relevant. This is a family friendly site, so you might
want to edit your post in the malware forum, before a malware fighter tells you so ;)

@Tallin

Thanks for the 5 days reminder link, I always forget that one :)

Cheers
